5.3 issues

My favorite has become a friggin smog test, here its required anyways to register, and shows up most engine issues. Probably not an option in your area...

Throw a scanner on after look for codes and an "I/M readiness" check to see if they cleared codes and haven't driven enough to reset the codes.

The 01 should bolt in, not sure on the 03. I believe when they went dbw in 03, they changed the cam sensor setup.

Ive used an air hammer with a flat face hammer and put the setting on low. Don't hit the pins themselves, just around them. You basically want a lot of vibration- not impact.

Check out the one next to it.. Rod cap blow off?

Powdered metal rods caps with fracture style parting surfaces. Fractured.

Rod cap was fine. I'm wondering if it hydrolocked. Pretty weird cylinder rust. Feels like abraded metal where I took the picture. Wondering if the cylinder wall cracked.IMG_20170118_110125.jpg

Good possibility. Freeze up, head gasket leak? Or electrolysis but usually that's a problem with wet sleeve engines..

Yeah you better round up a gently used 5.3

In that one pic it looks like the bare crank journal with only two bolts left.o_O

Shazamm! Good deal.

The pic of the outside temp at first look earlier today thought it read 33.5F

No, it said MINUS 33.5. Mid fifties in shop is pretty much a 100 degree improvement yeah
