1996 K2500 “Krovvy”

before I replaced my air box on my 95 with the ac on I had a little air blowing from the defroster and the floor with a majority coming out of the front vents. after replacing that portion of the dash that had the flapper doors everything worked like it should. though I did replace the actuator motors too. I do recall that one of the doors is spring loaded and even now if I turn on the ac and go right to high blower fan, the air will stay blowing out of the floor. I have to turn it on with the fan on low and give it a minute then go to high fan and it works as it should. my blower fan seems to create enough back pressure in the box to hold the doors so they won't do their thing.
Have you inspected the linkages to make sure the springs aren’t broken? From what you describe, I wonder if one of those could be broken.
 
More than likely. You should be able to watch the mode door actuator move if you switch it through the different modes while looking at the actuator from the driver’s footwell. As I recall, that actuator is visible from there without a ton of trouble, but my memory has turned to crap and I could be remembering that wrong.
you are correct. the mode actuator is located on the side of the box just above the throttle pedal. it's easily accessible and has two flat rod linkages attached to it, one is spring loaded. the only down side is you have to be head under the dash and feet up on the head rest LOL

I haven't gone back to look at it since I replaced it from a donor truck. at the time it was all working fine, but I also seem to recall that is the motor I replaced a cracked gear by gutting another motor which has some sort of electric issue rather than get a new motor. I will look at it soon as well as needing to replace the blower switch again.

I have been wanting to install relays for each fan speed to stop it from burning out my medium speed on the switch. it only has one relay for high. another case of the GM bean counters trying to save $$ the older trucks like my 93 has a relay for each speed.

How old is your fan blower motor?
I've found stuff like that is usually an indicator the the blower motor is on its way out.

I also augment the blower ground by adding and additional ground to the dash mount bolt just a few inches away.

I've had to redo the connection by the ECM on a few vehicles, because the wires were toasty
 
Blower is about two years old now. added the extra ground when I replaced it along with eliminating the melted connector further up on the harness. it's possible it's going bad. though these auto parts switches aren't known to be well built ether.
 
Got the dash installed tonight. I started installing it last night, but then realized I hadn’t reinstalled the brake pedal and other brackets so I had to remove and then reinstall after getting that stuff done. I also installed the steering column, but forgot to take a picture after that.

Les, I think you asked where the bolts/screws are for the dash before? I remembered to take pics of them.

Is it an AC Delco?

Is there a way to measure the amp draw to see if it's pulling more than it should?
 
No it's an auto parts "special" junk LOL I have a amp clamp for my multi-meter. I need to check and see what it's pulling.

Thinking about it, on the 93 (black truck) when I got it on the road the blower in it was squealing like a stuck pig. when I pulled it out still had the rubber face cover over it (my 95 is missing that part) I discovered it was an OE blower from 93. I blew it out with my compressor and tried my best to get some 3-n-1 oil into the bearings. even now it blows like there's no tomorrow!! just proof that I need to get a Delco motor for my 95 and be done with it LOL

The motor I used for this build was the original 96 motor. I hooked it up to a battery and it was kinda noisy. I put some 3-n-1 on the bearing and it quieted down so I kept it.
 
I started this afternoon cleaning the carpet for the truck.

It’s hard to appreciate the transformation in this pic, but here it is after applying over a gallon of Folex carpet cleaner, scrub brushing and then hosing it off in the driveway.

After that, I shifted my attention to the headliner. I added the necessary holes for an overhead console since this truck didn’t come with one, but I had snagged one at the junkyard a couple years ago. I cleaned the headliner and then the upper panels in the extended cab portion before installing all of it.

It’s going to look good once all the burgundy interior is cleaned and installed.
 
That’s how I cleaned mine on the 95. When I first got the truck the PO had used some sort of fabric spray paint on the carpet. It was brown but he painted it black. When I had my brake booster leak into the cab soaking the carpet I pulled it out and draped it over the fence in the back yard. Then went to town with the power washer!! Starting with it already hanging on the fence to drip dry makes for less work. No need to lift a sopping wet carpet so it can dry lol

Tye power washer took 90% of the paint off and returned the original color. As for the power steering soaked area. That was a chore to get out

Uh yeah......carrying that soaked carpet in and getting it draped over that ladder was not a fun task!
 
Yeah, my little 1650 psi Harbor Freight portable power washer I got for $62.95 at their parking lot sale 6 years ago has paid for itself multiple times over, from washing vehicles, blasting engine compartments/undersides before working on them, hanging up and cleaning the carpet floor mats, cleaning the deck, cleaning the driveway concrete, blasting off the underside of the mower deck. . .
 
Today I got the rest of the dash parts cleaned and installed.

After that I cleaned the rest of the interior plastics so they’re ready for installation.

The carpet padding was still damp in a couple spots, but it got better through the day with a fan so I’m hoping it’s all dry tomorrow so I can install the rest of the interior and move on to the next things.
