Just under 280k miles, has fass 150 installed w/ Leroy's pre filter, single efi live egr delete plus heavy tow tune, 5" straight pipe, new air filter.

My truck is blowing a black cloud at 1/2-3/4 throttle. Light throttle is fine and clears quickly if you punch it while smoking. On the edge gauge pod (egts havent worked in awhile) boost seems to stay at 10-12 with cruise set on a grade then shoot straight to 28 and level to 24-25, on the same grade it used to slowly increase to 20 while maybe lightly hazing at most.

Are my turbo veins sticking? Turbo failing? Only codes are for #1 glow plug and fuel gauge out of range.

Any tips on what to do would be appreciated.

You'd think grossing 36k would blow that out! Lol

The egr is shut off so it won't cycle but I do know not being blocked it can push open still.

Clean filter swapped to a new just to see. I cleaned the maf bout a month ago when it started coding.

Not using any noticeable amount of oil

Block the EGR. <-- That's a period.

It will get to the point you can't take off without a cloud of smoke and no power due to the EGR being open. Only truck I wanted to burn was a borrowed 2007 with this problem. The owner loved me after I handed him a blocker plate and he installed it. Instant cure it was.

Been off for awhile, but I'm sure there's a good chance its hung open. Plate has been sitting on my center console for 4 months lol

Put that plate in there Tanner. Soak the nuts and threads for a couple of days first though. Easiest to get to from laying over the engine on a blanket from the drivers side. I used a 1/4" drive ratchet and (IIRC) 12mm shallow well socket and had my son on the other side holding the socket on.

I did not use gaskets on the 2006 I did. Just a metal plate. It was hard enough to get in there.

I remember some guys complaining of a small air leak from either not using a gasket or using the gasket on the wrong side of the plate.

If you put the plate on the wrong side of the gasket it's an issue. To replace the gasket you would have to either pull the up pipe or pull the whole EGR cooler out to do it. If you flex the EGR pipe bellows enough to get the gasket out, then you will definately crack the EGR up pipe. Just slide the plate in between the EGR cooler and the gasket leaving the gasket against teh EGR up pipe and you will be fine. Otherwise you're opening yourself up to a WORLD of problems.

OK guys, thanks. A buddy gave me the plate after he returned his truck to stock and said I might need a gasket. He cracked a piston and sold the truck with a new crate engine with warranty. He had 120k on his and got 28k for it or I would have bought it, just had the cloth interior with manual seats.

Swather got out of the shop so I got to work the truck out over a 60 mile stretch. Started out the gate laggy and smokey, by the time I made it 45 miles the truck was back to normal chassis twisting power. I am going to say the egr was stuck open, need to block that crap...

Ok, I haven't gotten the egr blocked yet but found a problem in my tuning that was causing the smoke, upgrading to dsp5 but currently running stock ecm and its a lot cleaner.

Only problem now is my ect's are out the roof. I though the fuel/egr was causing the issue but now I'm at a loss.

Temps are running 225, 100* out, new tstats, rad cap, fan clutch, and sensor last year. I know its actually running hot, it is puking out the overflow.
