06 LBZ getting smokey and laggy

Oil sample time I guess...

I haven't pulled the stack but I did make a wand out of break line tubing with 2 holes 180 from each other. Blows between the coolers nicely.

The coolant temp will hit 250 if I give it too much fuel. It doesn't smoke on start up.
 
God I hope so! They were genuine ac delco but newer parts have failed.

No sweet smell out the exhaust, just the normal old diesel truck smell.

My new tuning, edge cts with back up cam, shim kit, pcv reroute, intercooler boots, and nicktane adapter started trickling in today!

I hope I get lucky with the tstat, the idea of putting the truck down for head gaskets makes me sick. I let it cool to under 200 before shut down, only takes 2-3 min.
 
I'm wondering if the 180 tstat is stuck, its held 190 perfectly until last week when temps climbed sharply over 90 and hit 105 with 50% humidity. When it hit 180 it doesn't flinch but will stay 190-195 cruising at night.
 
Not sure, but it sounds as if one of the two, is staying closed.

There is a decent how to video on the Merchant website explaining how to change them. Just mentioning it for anyone interested.
 
Not so good news, t stats came in yesterday and I got them in this am. Its a little better but still not right.

Runs 205 down the road at 60mph and 85f out. Would it be a good idea to put a pressure tester on the surge tank and see if it holds or leaks out?

I didn't pull the rad but I blew it out with my homemade blow nozzle for squeezing in the stack. I've seen it cool Ok while dirtier.

If it comes down to it what head gaskets do I need?
 
Water pump impeller shot? Bad fan clutch? Weak radiator cap popping off early? Maybe IR gun the radiator and see what the temps are and what is and is not hot.
