The Cranking speed is right at 300 rpm .....cleaned up starter & solenoid connections & rewired ..... new Interstate HD Batteries ...
A New Question here. No one around here has a Tech II OBD reader except for the Chevrolet Dealer who currently has no diesel guy & wants 300.00 just to tell me...
This is becoming a real mind boggler ..you guys are right, The injection system would have nothing to do with firing on ether ..... Unless I'm not using enough ether or there is internal damage in the engine .... The thing is it was running quiet & smooth when the pump quit just before I...
Thanks: we pulled cleaned & tested all of the fuses.... boy do I wish it was that simple.
The Theft Deterrent thing gives some hope if it can be found .... JB
Thats what it sounds like but there is pretty much no way to mess up installing a new key. As to the lack of Compression, You could be right but this truck never burned oil & did not exhibit any of the signs of engine wear connected with low compression when the IP quit.
Compression check...
Ok on X3 ... Both the pump & the PMD are new (PMDfrom diesel Care) The Grounds have all been re-done with new ends & checked with Ohmmeter ... IP has 2 grounds. Proper voltages to Fuel solenoid, PMD & to IP solenoid ... Harness 15 pin connector is clean as are the connections on the PCM ... The...
Can anyone tell me where the theft deterrent device is located? I cannot find it on the schematics I have ... truck does have keyless entry, But I am not aware of any device. We did a tear down & found the woodruff key on the Cam sheared ... just the 3/16" driving the pump gear. put everything...
I bought this truck used 4 years ago with 113000 miles on it. It is an "F" code late 97, has dual thermostats & an updated cooling fan. Checked GM & it had a new pump at 103,000... It now has 178000. This problem started with a friend dumping 5 gallons of supposed Bio Fuel in it without my...
Hey Louis: I don't think either pump is/was bad ... & we are pumping fuel so? I'm not sure where to go next here ... I think pull the front cover & double check the key in the cam .. Seems like years ago I remember working on a marine engine with the same symptoms & it had the distributor in 180...

When cranking there seems to be an abnormal amount of blow by. Combine that with no smoke when cranking & fuel in the oil .... does this add up to the timing being way off ???
The timing gears line up correctly but the cam could be turned if the key were sheared or partially sheared ...
Hey Brooklyn: Oil was changed just before all this happened, you can tell it's a bit thin but no fuel odor ... 178000 mi good fuel mileage .... This is a really clean truck the wiring seems to be good .... If you really hammer it you will burn a quart every 2500-3000mi. Good Compression. The...
Thanks to everyone for all the help here. One thing I have not mentioned, with all the cranking the oil level has gone up about a quart or better so I am assuming that is fuel getting by the pistons ... Don't know if this is abnormal? As for the grounds which are still suspicious we are...
Checked the configuration on the injector lines they were correct. Checked voltage to & from PMD (OK) removed the PCM checked all connections visual only ... re-checked all grounds..... The thing that keeps haunting is the interaction between the CPS & the Optical Sensor (Both must be connected...
Brookland Tow: I have been through the grounds several times ... Cleaned everything replaced ends, soldered & then checked with Ohmeter .. I agree with you & its something I keep going back to .... Thanks
