97 k2500 Chevy 6.5 Dead HELP!!!!!

Hi RODD: Thanks for the input .... We are on the second reman pump & Have been suspicious that there is not enough fuel flow or pressure to crack the injectors... Even with extended cranking we get no smoke or fuel odor out of the exhaust ... The pumps are from a very trusted source & a stanadyne licensed rebuilder .... I have two extra optical sensors so I will try changing one ... I would not ordinarily replace the CPS since it checks out but, they are a pain to change & I have a new one here ...

Brookland Tow: I have been through the grounds several times ... Cleaned everything replaced ends, soldered & then checked with Ohmeter .. I agree with you & its something I keep going back to .... Thanks

My 95 was sitting for over three years in the guys yard before I bought it. I put a new timing chain into it and I just couldnt get it started. It cranked over perfect, had good fuel, and glow plugs were new. Cranked for quite a while and she wouldnt start. Then the guy I bought it from came over and all he did was pour a bit of fuel into the intake manifold and she started up in a split second. Thats all it took was a bit of fuel in the intake to wet the cylinders and she fired right up.

Just something for you to try.

Did you try the basics. Clean all grounds and clean and check all fuses. These vehicles are very finicky with elecrical contacts. Sorry if this is redundant, or assumed info, just trying to help.

I just went through the same issue/s with my truck! Two IP's, two LP's tank cleaning, CPS, PMD's, grounds, Relays, all the related fuses & connections etc., etc. After a solid 6 plus weeks of troubleshooting (thanks to all on this site:thumbsup:) The last item checked was the ECM/PCM and its connections. Checked wiring to computer, replace with known good unit, and it fired right up. The orgin of this problem for me was the ground/s on the intake manifold passenger side.
Not sure if you have checked this yet but worth a try, your symptoms and process thus far mirror mine. Good luck.

Matt brings up a good point, fuses. Clean the spades on your ecm fuse in the under hood fuse box
max also has some good points. It has to be electrical

Maybe before & if contemplating changing PCM try connecting & disconnecting wiring harness to PCM ,as Gmctd used to say ,to "burnish" the connectors to get better conductivity. Also where wiring harness comes thru firewall reported to be a potential trouble area (broken wires I think). A couple more areas to check in addition to all important grounds .

Checked the configuration on the injector lines they were correct. Checked voltage to & from PMD (OK) removed the PCM checked all connections visual only ... re-checked all grounds..... The thing that keeps haunting is the interaction between the CPS & the Optical Sensor (Both must be connected to get fuel) This really sounds like a grounding problem

Maybe you have a ground wire that is broken internally so you can't see it. You could always run some extra grounds as a work around.

Did you check the 2 ecm fuses in the under the hood fuse box, no power to ecm may cause weird problems.

Thanks to everyone for all the help here. One thing I have not mentioned, with all the cranking the oil level has gone up about a quart or better so I am assuming that is fuel getting by the pistons ... Don't know if this is abnormal? As for the grounds which are still suspicious we are starting from zero for the umteenth time ... The Ohmeter doesnt lie though which for sure will tell you about broken wires .... re-check connections again ..

You would think it would at least fire with that much fuel having got to the cylinders Back to thinking about timing (injection).Key partially sheared? Presume rings are ok? Compression test ? You would think some of that fuel would have gone out the exhaust as white smoke . If injection timing off far enough could that cause the no fuel at injectors with either cps or optic sensor disconnected?

Hey Brooklyn: Oil was changed just before all this happened, you can tell it's a bit thin but no fuel odor ... 178000 mi good fuel mileage .... This is a really clean truck the wiring seems to be good .... If you really hammer it you will burn a quart every 2500-3000mi. Good Compression. The thing that bothers is no we get no smoke or even smell out of the exhaust when cranking

When cranking there seems to be an abnormal amount of blow by. Combine that with no smoke when cranking & fuel in the oil .... does this add up to the timing being way off ???

The timing gears line up correctly but the cam could be turned if the key were sheared or partially sheared ...

2 bad IP's?...I doubt it.....All though stranger things have been known to happen.

If you have an extra IP, can you have it bench tested to be sure it's 100%?
