My 'Burb was a "well maintained" 1998. Piston squirter block cracks developed after a few thousand miles. Beauty can be skin-deep!
So you buy a beauty like that, show it off to all your friends and family and then it grenades. Then you have to explain to your other half that the big...
schiker,
Funny you should mention those items, as I was just contemplating them while putting in my bypass coolant filter. I have a friend who is a Nuclear Engineer and I figured those guys know a lot about cooling so I gave him a call.
1st question he asked was how did I know the pump put...
I just bought a reman Delco w/ 1 yr warranty, in stock, from Advance Auto for $164.99 +core.
The noise you describe- if it sounds like a high-pitched scream is what I always had happen in my 83 CUCV w/ 6.2
I put a Ford solenoid on the firewall and ended the problem until I sold it a few...
How about climbing in your other car, turning the key on and looking for the "WAIT TO START" light to go out? Caught myself doing it in the Explorer the other day......too much Diesel time.....
As far as the Benz, I knew a guy that would go to Germany on vaca just to buy the Benz with hubcaps...
When it hit -1.94 I turned truck off like qwomack said to. When I started it up it still showed -1.94. After another shut down (without a TDCO learn) when I started it back up it was sitting at -1.63.
Not sure if that helps at all.
Oh- and I never moved the pump. It went that entire...
Well, I did the timing procedure. It really is kinda strange how the numbers "jump around" at any rate, it went from -2.20 to 1.63 after tons of KOKO's. It was at -1.94 for a while but then it reverted to the -1.63. Seeing as how I can't really say how I got it to -1.94 in the 1st place...
Correct didn't try to set. After reading again, I should make it learn to make sure that is the current setting, not just the one in memory, no? I figured there was no way it would be set to that on the old engine and it must be reading the current setting. I'm still trying to figure all this...
O.k. So It's running and I followed qwomack's instructions to the letter. Here is what the computer says:
IPT 10.5
IPTD 10.3
TDCO -2.20
RPM 602
Forgot the temp, but it was safely above the minimum.
I believe this means it's too advanced. Can I retard without moving the pump or is this too...
The big orange candy-like 40A maxi fuse. If I had the truck here, I'd go out and look to get the exact name on the cover. It was headlights or lights or something like that and when removed the daytime running lights turned off.
At any rate, the truck has a disabled aftermarket security...
So this is weird. In a fit of desperation, I put the headlight fuse back in that I removed because I figured the daytime running lights would accelerate battery discharge. Damn thing started right up. Runs great.
I can only imagine that circuit has something to do with the BCM as well....
No...
Well, I followed the instructions and the SECURITY light never went out. I put my scan tool (very cool- 1st time using it) on and no codes in memory. It did, of course throw tons of random codes that weren't there after a KOKO reset. At any rate, I did notice that it did throw a P1626 and a...
Heyman- My brother told me he remembered some goofy security reset procedure he had to do on a Malibu and asked me if my truck was similar. He's a good mechanic but doesn't really know (or care to know) diesel particulars. He helped me throughout the engine swap. He brought up the concerns...

I can snap a pic. I should be finishing up the engine transplant on Friday and I'll be under the lift bolting up the pipes to the exhaust manifolds anyway. The PO had 2 diesel subs. He was a quirky dude. Had these things on both of them. Raved about them. Never said how they saved his butt...
635- those instant-on chains were made by a company called On-Spot. We had them on our Navistar 4700 medium duty rigs. They worked but after 1 or 2 engagements the chain would break, requiring a new wheel as all the chains were welded on. A competitor came out with bolt-on links but their...
