How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

So have you figured out why they don't work? Common problem is the cable. Less common is the plastic gear that drives the cable.
1990 most likely an electronical speedometer.
Check that the electro/magnetical pickup thingabob at the tail shaft is producing voltage that allows the speedo to function.
Check for broke wires along the way between that thingy and the firewall.
 
What trans is in your rig? if it's a 4l80e then itll be an electric speedo, 7r400 uses cable driven.

I have one of those GPS speedo's, they work decent but they take a few minutes to connect and register speed when turned on. they are also nice to use to calibrate your speedo once you get it working.
