What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Corrected the coolant temp gauge that had stopped functioning. The gauge's sender isn't the one on the T-Stat housing (which sends temp. readings to the ECM) but, the one on the front of the driver's side head. I removed the connector, sprayed both socket and plug with Electrical Contact cleaner, scrubbed a bit with a nylon brush, flushed with the cleaner again and then blew everything dry with compressed air. Gauge functions as it should now. Finally, an easy fix.

Well today the 93 got a new set of shoes installed. ordered a full set of tires from tires-easy.com. free shipping and no extra poking the eyes on other charges like all the other tire shops do when buying new. I know there off brand tires but for the amount of driving I do, it makes no sense to get something with all the warranty and what not. even these with a 60k mile warranty, theyll end up rotting apart before getting even half that many miles on them.

I wanted something for highway use but still having a little better tread than a plain highway tire. These fit the bill!

Right now I have them on the factory steel rims, all the caps and beauty rings are off. I am thinking of cleaning them up and painting the rims. they are a sort of silver color. what did these trucks have on them from factory? what color was the steel rims and what did the factory center caps look like?

the center caps I have are kinda dingy chrome and from what I can tell online they are from a van of this era. there is a wheel spacer on the back so they can fit over the axle hub. I would like to get them looking close to what this truck had from the factory.

Here is a pic of the style caps I have on it.

Apparently from looking at images on a search, I have what was factory on this truck. only issue is they aren't deep enough to fit on the rear without having a wheel spacer. here is a random image I found on a search for "1993 chevy truck"

This is exactly what my wheels look like. same color steel wheels too

Those appear to fit the wells good enough.
Tires on my truck are 285/75r 16 and I do not like that big of a tire on this truck.
When I first got the truck, tap a bump while turning and the front tires would drag the corners of the wheel wells.
Screwed the torsion bars up as tight as they would go stopped that but now the truck sets mighty high.
I think these tires will make it through the summer but come fall, before snow, new tires is going on, tires with less aggressive tread that wont howl on the road.

I had the 265-75's from the 95 on this truck for a bit, but did not like how it lifted it up so high! no side steps makes for a bit of a pain getting in and out. funny thing was me and my daughter's father n law went in on these tires, ordered 8 tires together. he wanted a set for his 01 burb which on the door sticker shows the factory size as 265-75. I didn't catch that before we placed the order, but after we got them installed on both vehicles, the burb looks good too even with the new air shocks we installed on it!

I've got it parked in the back yard to do a full brake job on along with a couple other small things. I have the neighbor's fancy scanner to program some new key fob remotes on it. I think I might try and see if it can reprogram the ECM for the smaller size for the speedo to read correctly.

Where are those made?

Been removing my 'rock garden' after having the tree removed. Poor planning requires a do over. Anyway, been moving a metric butt-ton of rocks from my place to my son's as they need the material. We gathered all the rock from the area since we live on a glacier deposit so, more rocks than soil.
Truck pulls great, I just can't put more than a ton of it in the bed since the leaf springs are no longer the HD units but, OEM 1500 series. Don't want to get a ticket for doing the Carolina Squat. Other than the lowered rear end, the truck doesn't really notice the extra weight as city MPGs were still over 19.5.
