With a Bang , she's gone.

well, So far GM wants 2100 for a reman 3yr/36K. I have to install it.
Aamco will do stock rebuild for 1950 with 12/12. If I want bulletproof 2500$ with 12/12 and 2800 bullet proof with 3/36. Here's the thing though. Aamco 1 yr interest free financing. That helps alot. I have never loved "chain" places but that is a pretty good deal with the finance.
Getting prices from a few more places before I make a descision on what to do. I may buy the burb anyway and dump the Honda. Pilot has 113k.

The plot thickens. Forget about a used tranny. I didn't even think of this but I can only use one from a 94-95. OBD1 Not a one to be had.

Kenny get the burb, wife will love it, currently I'm 840 mile range with mine, and I still haven't installed ATT on it yet (hoping to do that this w.e.) haved gotten as good as 24 mpg with it, avg is 20-22 depending how I drive it, that burb have 3:42 in it ? 2 doors suk, 4dr comfort in full size vehicle that gets same or better mpg as the 2dr Tahoe is hard to beat.

It's an 8 lug burb so possibly 3.73s ? Best part is in the ad the guy says it has 300Hp. Boy did I have fun ripping that apart. Truck is complely stock. IIRC the warranty is still good on the IP. Anybody got a dead PMD laying around I can bolt on it ? Can you change the PMD without pulling the IP ? This way I can get the IP replaced for free...

Atleast the HD clutch I bought won't go to waste. It can bolt right on this one. It's like starting all over again though. DP crossover, 4 inch. heath chip, turbomaster guages, where does it end ? I won't be happy with it stock.

Think My Tahoe is worth 4k with a dead tranny ? There is one on ebay right now for about 6k. Tranny can be done for 2k for stock rebuild..

Who's HD clutch you get, had a interesting conversation about 1hr worth with Mr. Bill on clutches and cooling in general, when I get time I'll summarize the discussion in separate thread, bottom line clutch alone does not get to where one needs to be in proper cooling.

I would yank the 4L out of the Jimmy amd get it on the bench and apart.

The 4L is not all that much different than a 400. Many of the same parts inside you will find.

You probably broke a sprag or possibly a planet carrier.

These can be rebuilt with scrounged parts and a shift kit for fairly easy bucks.

Get a good tranny manual and that will get you from TH400 to 4L80 tech real quick.

Just a few more parts and a lot more wires is all.

I have had a a PS before. UUUUUMMMMM never again.

I Know that a lot of folks love them but the one I had left me with a nasty taste in my mouth.

Was always down for something wrong. Maybe a Monday truck, I dont know.

Keep us posted

Thanks, Missy but like I said I only did the TH400 in College 22 yrs ago which basically means I remember nothing other than we made hooks out of a coat hanger to pull the guts out. I have someone possibly interested in the Tahoe so I am waiting till I see the burb. Didn't know that TD, Guess I'm thinking old school Burbs. I know the 1500's were 6 lug.
TD makes a good point. I know these trucks pretty well. Kinda stupid to change up now but the burb may be a better option than the Tahoe. Thing is clean. The 97 IIRC has the HO water Pump so cold just chuck a fan on it and a good cleaning. Not sure if I'm going to chip this one etc. Will open the exhaust up though. That is always a must IMO. I checked the Vin, It's an F.

Then again I can buy a reman outright, so if i take it apart and can't put it back together i could always go that route. I remember years ago it was hard to buy a tranny kit. Had to go to the dealer.

Hey Ken, sorry to hear about your trouble, but, if you need one, I have a dead PMD... No shipping either, huh? what more could you ask for?

The rebuild kits are available even on ebay now.

Hard parts are available from various sources too.

The stealer is pretty much out of the loop in that dept.

My college days were where I learned tranny tech too.
1970-71

Worked in the industry for a while after college and then moved on into other things.

Anymore I learn the new tech when I have to.

Had never done a 700R until I had one blow. Stopped off at the tranny shop and got the book.
Went home and ripped the box out. Spread it out thin on the bench to find what went wrong.

Had it back up and flying in about a week. Took some time to scare up the needed hard parts used plus decide what mods I wanted to make too.

best

I'd really love to make a handshaker out of it but not sure what that would entail with the clutch linkage etc. would probably screw up the cruise too and I like my cruise. I have a bad back from many many miles of Trucking and as stupid as it sounds it hurts when I sit and drive but using the cruise seems to help.

I'm gonna go take it for a quick ride with GMTDScan. I'll post. No chance it could be a sol or something could it ? I mean that bang felt to me like something let go.

Thanks Mark. Was thinking I'll bring it in and say it's stalling and get the pump done. why not.

Or you could unplug the OPS, set codes, plug it back in, and say it's randomly been acting up, make sure you do all the surviving a trip to dealer stuff you need to do and document the TS you did so you don't get charged for it,

reciepts for the new fuel filter, this works when mine "died" at 119,997 miles, but as luck would have it the on IP driver was dead, it had a total of 6 miles on it when it was replaced at 37K miles new with the IP, and I went to a Kennedy/DSG underhood and then Heath remote kit, so another data point that just basic underhood heat over time can kill a driver.

Oyyyy. Well I don't want to get my hopes up but I just took the truck for a cruise and it is shifting fine though all gears and GMTDScan shows a historic code 72 VSS ? Is that my problem ? No WAY can I be this lucky.
