Well I don't think I have to worry about overheating or ATT etc. I just left to go buy some Ammo and 1-2 shift big bang and the tranny's gone. It seems like it only has 2nd gear but it's irrelevant. This truck is not worth a 3000$ transmission rebuild and I have not rebuild a transmission since College doing TH400s. At this point I'm going to sell them both and buy a Superduty. I like my Tahoe but I don't have that kind of money. I'll have to sell them both and then finance something esle(If I can get a loan the way banks are now).
If I could find the parts reasonably I would put a stick in it. I hate automatic because this is what always happens. It's only since I got married I started buying autos. Guess what ? Wifey WILL learn to drive a stick . I will never own another auto. way too much to fix. Boy do I miss TH400. I could get one done for 600$ installed.:sad::sad:

Kenny, sorry to hear about the trans, that sucks. Any chance of finding a replacement in the Bargain News or Craig's List?

Kenny plenty of trucks out there for replacement parts, you won't be happy with the super duty, if you are strapped to repair a 4L80, when a SD/stroke goes bang the $$$ to un bang it is far more expensive than a repair for a 4l80

IIRC QWOMACK posted a running $2000 obo craigs list a couple of weeks ago, I'd go that route before giving up on the 6.5, especially since you finally know how they work, how much you know about the PS

What about a "used" unit - you can r and r......on the flip side, lots of good deals on new vehicles in this economy (pending your credit)

Tough call

Kenny, think long and hard here. Dont' ditch both rides to get one SD.... gonna regret it like everyone else.

BTW, sorry to hear the bad news. Happened to me, AAMCO 2400 for rebuild.. I'll look for junkers around here.

well the other option I am discussing with my wife is dumping the Tahoe and her Pilot and getting an Excursion 7.3PS and keeping my GMC. As fas as Powerstrokes, I had one. It was a great truck. The main reason I sold it was it was too nice to go beatin through the woods plus it rode like a bucket of crap on the higway but as far as towing it would out tow my gmc by a mile. When I moved to CT I had my skidsteer trailer on the back loaded with equipment, 100 gal transfer tank in the bed loaded with fuel, The rest of the bed filled with firewood and an 8ft western plow haning off the front and the truck never broke a sweat. I agree, trans suck in those too, it went at 77k and should have cost 3k but I was lucky and had ford warranty. Only cost 100$. If I buy anthoer PS it will be a handshaker for sure.

Too bad a TH400 wouldn't fit. I have a nice core with an NP205 case. My 83 GMC with the 6.2 had the th700(4l60) and that was a POS too. I swapped it to a TH400. Never had another problem and I beat the balls out of it. Not sure how many miles on this tranny. Truck has 178k and could very well be original.

My bottom line is 4k for the truck. I was offered 8k last summer. Any less and I will fix it. It's just that right now it would be easier to sell both and finance something newer cause even after 3k ffor a tranny I still have a truck that basically can't tow my camper, see where I'm going ? beleive I love the truck and if money were no issue I'd put it in the garage for weekend drive but the practicalty of it is I can't own yet "another" vehichle and the GMC is a tired old whore. it is excellent for plowing the driveway and hauling firewood but it's not a "take the family camping" truck.

There's a guy on ebay selling one for 1700$ reman with free shippping. He's on LI which isn't that far. I'm gonna call him and see what kind of deal he would cut if I picked it up.
