why so many 6.5's

i've been seeing more and more 6.5s in my area lately. used to be mine was one of the few i'd see. now i almost always see two or three on my ride to work. saw a nice lifted one a few days ago. had a big suspension lift on it(not sure on numbers as it just drove by). sounded great too.
 
I don't see any 6.5's around here. :rolleyes5: But I do look for the nostrils. I did run by a red/burgandy one on Saterday on my way back from MO on 63 north of Kirksville. and had to do a double take :Eyecrazy:.

Although I am fairly new to the Duramax diesel I am well educated on old and new gm trucks. The 2 square holes in the bumper are almost the only way to identify the 6.5.

Nah ... look for a completely confused GM mechanic, trying to bluff his way through a diagnosis... THAT'S how you identify a 6.5TD!
 
I never will forget the GM certified mechanic that swore to me that the turbo on my truck was an aftermarket product and thus voided my extended warranty contract, "GM didn't build no turboed trucks", I know I was a GM tech, plus you got them Banks gauges.

No but I don't think he is employed there anymore, as I reported the warranty company to my state insurance commissioner they are hiring unqualifed "claim adjustors" to review claims, got a letter from the company apologizing for the oversight and that claim would be honored. His premise was that because I added the turbo, my truck was "too strong" and that burnt up the clutch pack.

Reason I reported to Ins Comm., is that what most people don't realize is extended warranties are insurance products sold by dealers or aftermarket warranty companies, and aren't tied to the car mfr at all.
 
Haha Im glad im not the only one who rubbernecks at the bumperholes- and 6.2l's as well. my passengers always look at me wierd.):h they just don't get it.

Theres quite a few 6.5ers around my area. i see a few everyday on my drive to work. don't think there are any site members up here though....

y'know, I feel bad for all you guys who don't have a good dealer mechanic. My small logging town GM dealership sells 5 to 1 diesels to gas, and they have since the 90s.... and their diesel mech. is the same one from 1992. I can't afford the dealer prices usually, but every time I'm in there someone goes out to get him, he just wants to TALK about my truck, and come out and look at it... He is really a pro at the 6.5, having done SEVERAL complete rebuilds, owned 2, and been working as the diesel tech at the dealership for so long... I know that most dealers suck, but I guess I lucked out, cuz I know if mine is completely F*%^ed up, they will have the ability to fix it!
 
I think the holes look better than the gasser bumpers. The gasser bumpers, even with front license plate and impact absorbant block thingies look too plain to me.

HA!!! Like the one that put a several dozen hours of diagnostic work into my truck just to figure out that it was the PMD that i told him and showed him where, what, and how to replace on day 1 of a 4 week stay-in at the stealer... :mad2: :rant:

I am in Mission...lots of 6.5's here in the valley. I think they sold very well back in the day.
