Where did that carnage thread go lol

Yup, was an Optimizer, nothing is really salvageable. Cam and crank possibly, but split bad on every main. Heads had really bad cracks between valve as well, beyond being repairable.

Wow! Sorry to hear that the heads and block are all toast!

Yes it really sucks and is discouraging when the engine is completely out of the truck because it's a long way and time spent/waiting to get one back in. I imagine your disappointment in the Optimizer's reputation. (I have had a Cumapart out of the truck for the 3rd time in under 110K spoon feeding me the fact it did not make 1 million and especially even half of the normal 'for sale' miles on most 250k+ stupid high mile 5.9 ads.)

What choices and plans you thinking of?

Again I've enjoyed the Hot Rodding you shared with us and was inspired to follow some of it! Look forward to your next engine or ride no matter what direction you take.

I got 3 blocks sitting at home. Just a matter of what I got left to work with at this point. I got a 599 short block that was my original motor, a 506 block with cracked mains, and a 141 with bad heads and possibly a spun bearing. I could probably mix and match them and put together a motor but not really what I want to do. I'll be honest, kind of at a loss of what to do. Still gotta explore my options. It's between rebuilding my 599 block from the ground up and girdling the bottom end and full studs. Or taking out a loan and going big. I got to do some more research. Any input is welcome as well. I'm open to all options at this point. I really appriciate it guys. Let me know what u got

If you are doing it yourself: overhaul the 599 block and that be rings and only fixing anything else that "broke" on the Frugal. Run it while saving up to go big. Loans suck. I have NOT been able to find insurance to cover what I have in my trucks if one got stolen etc. A loan on a stolen truck would hinder a replacement. Commercial insurance with agreed value would cover it, but, expensive for just being commercial with weights to 26,000LBS regardless of what it can or can not tow. Otherwise "Betterment" is a negotiable term that may require attorneys to fight "We saved 15% or more on your claims payout!"

If you are paying to have the engine installed the labor is a factor to doing an engine as best you can every time.

We all would love to live vicariously through a BIG build of yours, of course.....though none of us would want to put you in serious debt to do it. Time to scour classified ads for an Optimizer take out me thinks.

I think I would build off of what you have for now oike WW said on the cheap and save up for the go big project. Keeping all the other parts around "just incase" is good, but only if you use them. Toasted block, heads, rods, etc is a pretty good "incase".

It's too bad all us 6.5 addicts aren't all neighors- that could be fun and helpful- "ok guys, this weekend let's do Fred's rig..."

That sounds good in theory, but I fear that in reality it would end up like a bunch of alcoholics going in together on running a bar: we'd all end up homeless, jobless, familyless, friendless, moneyless.............................still, it would be fun! :woot:

To be completely honest, one options I am really very well considering is buying a set of centermount heads so I can run the centermount intakes to clear my inline pump and going that route

Wait......RRRRRRRR......inline pump!!!!?????

I hate my van centermount intake. Coming straight up, then so tall, they get in the way of the db2 cruise control. Also the thermostat crossovers are stupid tight.

The turbo Hummer ('96-04) ones are a little bit better, because they taper down a little for clearance, but flow less also.

If you find a set really cheap it might be worth test fitting, otherwise consider breaking out the welder and some pipe.

I know I will forget, so when you see me posting I have my engine apart in the next couple months, remind me to take any measurements you need between the intake runners.

at this point, i am kind of in a "**** it" mood regarding the build. Since it's not my daily anymore, it opens up a lot of possibilities. I am not sure if I wanna go for a big power build still or go for just straight up unique build thats plain fun to drive and dick around in

So this is the plan I'm leaning towards. Pending good inspection of the 599 block, I am going to re-ring and bearing it. Girdle the bottom end and studs where I can, thicker gaskets to drop compression a touch and stick with my T-cups. I am going to replace the heads with some import ones (if the Optmizer heads cracked anyways, I can't justify replacing the heads with Optimzier heads again for double the cost to get the same results). I will be going with centermount heads and van intake, which I will modify to accept air from the side, not the bottom of the intake crossover. I will be installing my intercooler as well. I will lean towards installing my prototype pump at the moment, but the intake will leave room for my inline lump down the road. I will be removing any luxuries to clear room on the firewall and relocate my FFM, and probably go with larger fuel lines and a Raptor lift pump.

Sounds like a good plan and can't wait to watch! I don't know how much fuel your prototype IP will push, but for what it's worth, I have exceeded the limits of the Raptor pump on my build and will be going with something larger at some point.
