WHAT IS AN ATT!?!?!?!?

You might be surprised to know that I can make my 6.5 output almost as much fuel as a DMax and it can pull at half the boost with the higher compression.

Why are the DMAX guys hanging out in the 6.5 threads any ways :???:. :skep:

I used to be one of them there 6.5 guys, so I stil hang outs with my old family even though I'm now a redheaded stepchild. As for the 3.42 gears and milage, I average 20 pretty consistently WHEN I can keep my foot out of it. I've seen 22 on the highway a few times now running 70 with some stop and go mixed in. My problem is a tank will go over 700 pretty easily, and trying to stay out of it for 700 miles is REALLY tough. And as for power, my 6.5 had 4.10's and was no slouch by any means. I could break the tires loose with it when I wanted to, and towed pretty much whatever I wanted to with it. I only had a 3" exhaust, K&N air filter, modded airbox, #9 resistor, and a optic bump on the 6.5. But she was no match for the DURAMAX even when it was stock with 01 programming. Where the LB7 DMAX loses it is off the line when stock. GM put so damn much delay in them for smoke control it was ridiculous.

We want 1/4 mile times, Buddy got side tracked or scared....

I still think it would be a good race.

Who wants to race for mileage ??????

With my current tune I know I can eat pretty much any stock diesel for breakfast, but even the stock tuning wasn't slow by any means. As for milage, I'm sure I could break into the upper 20's if I held it to 55-60. This summer I came back from Jersey and did the outer banks and the entire eastern seashore drive on the way back. And even with all of the stop and go driving, waiting for ferrys, and sight seeing, I still got almost 22 on that tank. It's wierd beeing able to go that far on one tank without stopping. I guess I should have ponied up and ran her at the NHRDA last weekend in Gainesville and seen just what she had in her. I would imagine 15's would be pretty easily obtaineable even with my daily driver tune.

I've driven my friend's '03 F350 dually with 6.0 Power Stroke, several times, as recent as this week. It has the Edge adjustable programmer, punched out soot trap on stock 5" exhaust and manual 5 spd. The turbo sounds like a jet engine spooling on the runway. He's got 112K miles on it with no issues. Usually runs it at level 4 on the programming and watches his temps. Holy bat truck. That thing has just gobs of power. I was all proud of my ATT'd 6.5, but folks his performance is a world apart. You punch that thing and the back end will get squirrelly on ya. While towing 14K you can easily make passing moves at highway speed. He wanted me to buy it, but I was concerned over the bad rep of the 6.0 PS. I also like the utility of the Suburban vs a full truck. Guess I'm resolved to life in the slow lane.

I had an 04 excursion with the edge w/ attitude. I could light up the tires so fast with that program. With the cruise set at 85 I got 21.5 mpgs on setting 5 which is the most hp. That was on a 700 mile trip. The same trip before the edge programmer got me 17.9 mpgs at 85 mph. On a 400 mile trip I got 22.5 at 80 mph. I loved that truck and would still have it if the economy didn't change on my and my income drop so much.

A 6.5 isnt going to do much until you get a reprogrammed PCM, and you wouldnt have had anything like mine

I had a chip at one point and it still wouldn't hang with the DMAX. I will say if you take a stock LB7 DURAMAX and line it up against TD's truck(just using his as a reference since I've ridden in it), from a standing non boosted start the 6.5 will eat the DMAX up. If you take a DMAX and do nothing but remove the factory limiters and set the timing like GM SHOULD have from the get go though, the LB7 will light up even a stout 6.5. I'm just simply stating facts here as I have a different view on this subject since I have had both engines in the same platform.

I don't know if you've seen my videos in my conversion thread, but the one laying all the rubber was simply a20% over tune, nothing fancy. I took a stock tune and simply went through it and made the timing tables like GM should have from the get go, removed the fuel limiters to allow full fueling all the time, and set the MAF tables to bring the fuel in faster, and lets just say it was a fun tune. And that was just 100MM3 of fuel. My current tune is probably putting out around 140-150MM3 of fuel, so lets say it will roll.

Like I said, you wouldnt have had the programming like I do, especially if it was a while ago. I have seen what was being put out there in the past

Eventually when warranties are up the DMax will be the same way. Ford is going to be using DMax as well, parts will become cheaper and they already sell the keys to the kingdom of those computers.

I fix my DMAX now like many do. And as for FORD using a DMAX, I don't think that will ever happen. The new FORD diesel built in house seems to be doing pretty dang good so far.

Well...A Duramax is about the only thing I have not owned. In fact never even rode in one. Don't want to. It will probably make me spend money I don't have.
Smack talk all ya want. All in good fun but to say any 6.5 will out run a Dmax towing is a very bold statement. Even if it could keep up powerwise the 6.5 would melt before the dmax even got hot.
Dmaxs have there share of issues too. I spent alot of time lurking in the shadows of the lb7 section (about all I can afford) and I'd pick a 6.5 over a dmax to work on any day of the week.
I have had the rare abilty to tow the same 8k camper with a Cummins, a modded 6.5 a stock 6.5 and a 7.3 PS.
OUt of all of them the Powerstroke won hands down. When my 6.5 broke down on the side of the highway on a 100 deg day, Mom's powerstroke pulled that camper home with the temp needle NEVER moving from where it normally is. My Cummins would climb and drop. Never overheated but temps gauge was busy for sure. The 6.5 in stock form ran cool with just cooling upgrades. As soon as I modded them the temps egts everything go crazy.
IIRC Didn't GM on later dmaxs put stars or something on the pistons to melt if it was overfueled ? Ford 6.0's No Thanks. We have had many problems with the ones at work. Can they be made to run right ?? Yeah if you don't mind spending alot of money or working on something absolutley horrible to work on. Take a 7.3 anyday over a 6.0. Back on point though if anyone here thinks there 6.5 is gonna out tow a dmax..I'll take that bet. Put me down on the Dmax.

Yep, he sure was turning some RPM's there. He was running 3.42 gears same as I am IIRC, but I believe he was set up to turn upwards of 5,000-5,500 RPM's. He recently decided to go back to drag racing with it too. It would scare you to see just how easily I have hit 120 in the BURB(I set it to shut down there to keep me out of TOO much trouble). Last November my mom got hurt here at the house, and the helicopter didn't beet me to TAMPA(about 30 miles through heavy traffic with about 15 of it interstate) by much. And don't be sceered of the DMAX. Remember that most of the people who post(espescially those with newer trucks), only post horror stories. And I've never heard of anything inside of the engine to indicate over fueling, they do though use 3 different modules to record how much fuel and torque it is making though. If you tune an 06+ DMAX, GM CAN find out EASILY. Even if you swap ECM's to cover your tracks, or ECM and TCM as the BCM also data logs.

My truck has definately livend up over the past year. Hopefully with the new cummins turbo and intercooler it will be pretty quick. My friend had a stock 24v and i killed him, he got an edge chip and i could keep with him till stage 3 lol. Then he had me, he also had a complete fuel system upgrade too. Now he is back to a 12v, and i roast him. Paybacks a boitch... Sorry for getting off topic. But i got an insane deal on the I/C and WH1C. (LOL free until i get the money to pay for them) Thanks for all your help buddy!
