What I am driving now....

And then what happens? I get truck fever, and it all starts again!!! :mad2:

Seriously, I'd like to come and see....... I'll look in the LA section to see when I can make one

we usually do one in the spring and the fall...and shoot at Tallow Creek...TurbineDoc(Tim) and I usually meet up a few other times during the year as well as whenever an out of state member passes through, we like to meet anyone willing...you are welcome to join us anytime.

on edit: don't feel bad about not having a truck...Otis(BigOL3) usually drives his Subaru

Hello all, been awhile, thought I'd check in.
Mother in law needed a car pretty bad, so the Jetta is in her hands now. (And yes, it's involved in the emissions scandal, we're waiting to see how that turns out.)
I don't have a picture handy, but I am in a 2014 Ram EcoDiesel now. Got it late last year used (l don't buy new), it was good up until now, averaging 23 - 24 miles per gallon. But on June 28, I noticed oil and sludge in the coolant reservoir. Oil cooler failed...It went into the shop on June 30, and has been there ever since. Got a call from the dealer on Friday saying that Chrysler is going to change the engine. Flushes don't really work well, it is hard to get all of the sludge out of the passages. So new engine new radiator new coolant reservoir new hoses... Basically anything that the coolant goes through is going to be changed. The oil cooler is not air cooled, it is cooled by engine coolant. In my opinion this is a poor design, if or when it fails, it's a huge ordeal. If not in warranty, I would have flushed it myself, and installed an aftermarket cooler that doesn't mix coolant and oil, but I have to wait until warranty is up.... probably won't be keeping this truck...

Every DURAMAX on the road has a coolant cooled oil cooler, and every 350 CHEVY since the late 80's also has, so it's not a bad design. Something else must be up for them to change everything as oil can be gotten out of the cooling system. All it takes is a good detergent in the cooling system and get it hot a few times and the oil residue will be gone.

The dealers I have spoken to that attempted to flush one, still had oil seeping into coolant after multiple flushes... not to mention, if oil gets into coolant, coolant probably went the other way.
Regardless, I have around 50,000 miles left on the powertrain warranty, I probably won't be in this after it expires... keeping an eye out for a 1996 - 2000 6.5 now, I know I can keep one of those going indefinitely, for relatively low cost. Or a 2006 LBZ

GM diesel calling you back home...
Its like a drug addiction.

My neighbor had the same thing with his eco diesel a year ago, maybe more. They flushed his. Then it overheated, and they broght it back in to flush everything again. He researched and found out that its up to the dealership to fight dodge to warranty out engine.

His kept getting the oil and coolant mixed somehow... sometimes the same day he would pick it up, others a few days later. (Amazingly corresponding with when he could use a car for work instead of needing his truck...hmmm;););)).

Just like someone told him, they eventually gave up and he got a new engine also. Glad yours just got outed.

Coolant plus bearings = I would not make payments on that engine.

Fix It Again Tony (FIAT) strikes again. In this case, it's VM Vittori who makes the engine.

Hasn't Nissan come out with their truck with a 5.0 liter V8 Cummins in it. Toyota will also get the 5.0 Cummins. Now that would be a great engine to do Conversions with on our Suburbans.

ALL of the new Diesels are plagued with emissions controls....
DPF, DEF injection, SCR... the 5.0 Cummins won't be any different.
I think the LBZ is the last Duramax not saddled with all this, which
is why they are still so high priced. I live in a state that does not
check emissions on Diesels (at least not yet) so if I kept the Ram,
I could eliminate the ones that start causing problems, after it's
out of warranty.
As a matter of fact, while the Ram's in the dealership having the engine
swapped, they are also changing the cat (recall)
My problem with the Ram is, as nice as it is, I just never bonded
with it... was always more comfortable in GM products.
Right now, Ram has me in a rental... 2016 F-150
It's nice, and I can see why they are popular, very solid, very quiet.
It's got the 3.5 V-6 (not Ecoboost), mileage has been around 23.
I'm not a Ford guy though, couldn't see myself owning this.
I need to get my wife another Tahoe, make that our tow vehicle,
and get a Corvette! Always wanted one, but I know that it's too
impractical, would probably have it a year and be looking for a truck.

I talked with a guy who's company truck was a 2015 2500 HD with a DMAX. He cleans scrubbers on power plants and is all over the west, while base out of Wyoming. He said the truck has had no issues with the DEF/DPF. No regen issues. No drops in fuel mileage.

My wife has a Mercedes 280 SLK. She's over it. She loves her 4Runner.
