What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Thinking about it more while at work. the hollow thumping sound I was hearing from the exhaust and engine. I am wondering if there is a chance a piece of carbon could have gotten lodged holding the exhaust valve slightly open? the engine isn't knocking and oil pressure was good. coolant temp was maybe at 170.

I suppose it it's still running this way on my trip home, I could pull the laptop out and do a cylinder cut out test.
Seen this issue before. Rocker button (as suggested) may have sheared and you’ve got a seven cylinder. Check codes for misfire on cylinder X and also check your oil level and see if you’re ‘making oil’ … pushing diesel past the rings into the pan.

I have never touched the buttons since I have owned this truck (about 3 years iirc) I should have done something way back when I replaced the valve cover gaskets.

I have to figure a way home when I get off work. about a 6 mile trip plus get the truck home too. if this is the issue, and it happened as I was exiting the freeway and continued for about another mile and a half till I got to work. how safe am I to drive her home taking it slow and easy?

That is assuming she starts when I leave.

Just made it home taking it slow and easy. Pulled out the laptop and checked codes and ran the injector cut out test. All 8 cylinders react when I turn off each injector one by one at a time. Two codes. 92: cylinder balance fault #2 and 93: cylinder balance fault #6

I started a new thread for help. here...

I run the truck from Miles City to Billings, dragging along the 8X12 utility trailer. Went to Cabelas and loaded up a pedal boat for the grand daughters. Hauled that to the cabin and stayed two nights. Came home Sunday. About a 450 mile round trip.
Not sure about fuel mileage but the truck run flawless, sounds much nicer with the new injectors and it did not leak a bit of oil from the rocker covers.
Oil level was down about a pint before we left home so I topped it up. Got home and level exactly where it was before we started out on Friday afternoon.
I’m once again in love with My truck. 😹😹😹
One note: the injectors were all spot on at exactly 1950PSI. They do chatter a little louder than the old injectors and I am going to send the old set over to that shop and have Him test those to see where they are breaking at and if they were having problems. At least one was misfiring when it was cold.

I finally have something to contribute to this thread other than selling the Suburbans and the Tahoe.
Wish I had the parts that went with them. That'd be worth as much as I got for them.
But somebody with anger issues demanded they go.

I finally found someone to help. He doesn't know much about 6.5's but he's a willing helper and I appreciate it immensely.
He removed the starter from the 1994 K3500 yesterday.
Got the front brakes on the 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD a couple days before.
Is going to help on the 1991 International and the 1963 John Deere 4010.
We just keep plugging away.

The 1994 K3500 needs a lot.
Hopefully no fuel issues.

Needs Starter, battery cable, downpipe, new boost gauge - have one - dropped it, broke the glass - hopefully not the gauge, engine, PMD & IP/ injection pump harnesses, Fluidampr, fuel pressure gauge & has a fuel leak above the starter. -

fuel filter, check lift pump.

I'm hoping the fuel leak is a return line.

Well today I went out to help a friend pull a fuel tank out of his burb as the pump died. got that done and went to head home to cool off from this heat 103 deg outside. apparently the dash vent doors got jammed and now I barely have any air flow coming out of the front of the dash of my truck. looked at the electric motor under there and it is turning when I change the dial but not much changes. I can get full air from the floor and defrost but hardly anything from the front vents!

any pointers on fixing this?

Well I just watched a YouTube video on how to and read a form posted on the gmt400 site showing what happens to the vent doors. So I get the lovely job of tearing into the dash! Lucky I have a complete air box I have pulled from the pick a part yard. I’m going to try to just replace the upper door assembly without evacuating the AC. Let’s see how this goes.

Got the dash up and supported. And with a bit of finagling I was able to separate the door section away from the main box. Set them both side by side on the table and well, mine is shot! Here’s some pictures of both. Next step is trying to get the other one back in now…

Well I got it all back together. with a little patience I was able to finesse the door section back into place and locked into the rest of the box. bolted everything back up enough so I could test things out. at first nothing was working, the vents didn't change at all so I figured the door motor was ether no good or different since it had come from an older gas truck. swapping out the motor and installing my old one seemed to do the trick. everything seems to work fine with no air leaking out the floor or defrost vents and the front blowing. though maybe it's just me, but the air doesn't seem to blow as hard as before. I will finish buttoning it all up in the morning and while I'm at it, pull the blower and clean out any debris that might have gotten into the evap area.

Note the plumbers strap on the dash, that's what is helping hold it up on the top screws since the dash is so broken up. sometime in the future I will have time to swap out the dash. I have a complete un-cracked dash sitting in the garage for it, but it's blue. I need to clean and paint it unless I can find someone that might want to trade and needs a blue one LOL.

Just out of curiosity, this deflector that is in the section I just installed. would this be making the difference in air flow for the front vents? both boxes were identical other than this deflector. I didn't think to cut it out, I just wanted to fix it since the doors on mine were stuck.

now that it's in, I had my center console sucking up what air was leaking past the floor vent and blowing it to the back seats. with the new piece I just intalled, that won't work anymore since there's no more air leaking past that floor vent! I might just ditch the entire center console for some extra cab room open space!

Finally Finished buttoning up the dash. Pulled the blower and cleaned what little debris was in the box. I thought it was fairly clean until I took my air blow gun to it. 😱. I had a dust storm in the cab and flowing from the vents!!

Pulled out the center console. I need an opinion. What is best? Keep it or go without the center console?

I tried running without one- my sons dodge he ran without it for a while too.
If you never carry anything - it is a nice minimalist look. Other wise you will eventually set a bag from the drive through there, thinking the seats will keep it from tipping.
It won’t. It’s worse imo, because I and my son always use out rigs like a family truckster.

Try it for a week and see if ya like it?

Yesterday I had it towed home again.. ANOTHER busted lower ball joint.. this time on the driver side. That one has only broke once before since I've owned it and that was a couple weeks after I bought the truck so 6-7 years ago... I think when I replaced that one before I put a Moog in it. But don't really remember.
Anyhow now my front fenders match..
I'm not buying an AutoZone ball joint this time.. the last time the passenger side one broke we put a Napa brand ball joint in. Any recommendations of one I can get at a local store?? Locally we have AutoZone, advance Auto, Napa and carquest. One of them has got to carry a decent quality ball joint I would think
