Water In Fuel, the Light Said

Swapping an IP is not too bad. Pull the upper and lower intakes. The hardest part is getting to the lower injector lines on the back of the pump. (need a 3/4 inch crows foot). Take the oil fill neck off and you can get to the three bolts that hold the gear to the pump (just don't drop them down in the engine and you won't have to take the front cover off) The gear will sit in place when you remove the pump and there is an indexing pin so the new pump will only go on one way. If you get the timing close by ear and then the pump can adjust itself to the exact timing.

I'm down to the 3 bolts that hold the gear to the pump. Oil fill neck is off and I don't see them. Do I need to spin the engine to get them to appear in the oil filler neck hole?

It wouldn't be that bad, except I walked back in from getting lunch for the guys in the shop one day, and 1 guy saying "just bump it, wuss!" to the other one at the key for the slight engine rotation- luckily he was resistant. Getting out 1 bolt and moving it to the 2nd this way wouldn't cause any damage, but he just removed the 2nd bolt...

Somebody got a few of his fries to his face...(It's ok, I am much more mellow now days).

I doubt my California friend would try it, but sometimes people get creative.

Reminds me of somebody (not me) who tried that trick to remove torque converter bolts. Worked ok through the first five, then he had a helluva time when the converter wedged itself up against the inside of the bellhousing with the last bolt at the top!
