Been a little busy lately so leaving my usual contributions around here has been a bit of a challenge. Luckily, things have leveled out, so here comes a bombardment of information at once. Might wanna grab a hard hat.

First off being updates. About a week ago I tore the truck down for a good cleaning and replacement of the OPS as well as finally relocating my PMD off that damned IP. I didn't go with the usual kits (I.E.-Heath, walts FSD Heat Sync). Rather like everything else on my truck rigged my own setup. Pictures will be at the bottom for you to drool over and it cvost me less than 100 bucks so needless to say I'm quite pleased. A week later, after enduring offroading, ridiculous tempurature changes, and a torrential downpour, it has come out completly unharmed and proven completly succesful. Turns out my old PMD had a #4 resistor in it already and with the new #9 I've noticed a slight(but noticable) increase in power and a little extra mileage to boot. Special thanks goes to Leroy(PMDcable.com) for providing a very high quality setup with his heat sink and extension harness.

Next off are a few questions I've been pondering over.
1) What is the weight of the front end being put on the coil springs. I've been looking and doing research into rigging my truck with front Air Bags in place of the shocks.

2) If I removed the old glow plug controller completly and drove my truck, would this throw a code? My check engine light has been on since I pulled it. Keep in mind for those from the "place" that my trucks glow plugs are independant from the rest of the system. (A switch and solenoid turn them on and off at will)

3) Will a 3ish" lift to the front end and leveled out rear end allow me to fit 285/75R16's?

Nice work! Makes me wanna get the pressure washer going under my hood too!!!

:nanawrench:

Aww, look guys! Someone else fell in love with their 6.5!

Congratulations are in order.

Looks like she'll work. I would seal the unit around the heatsync w/black rtv.

Nice clean engine too. I gave mine a really hard hand douche about a month ago and its a pleasant surprise everytime I open the hood. Makes her run better too :)

Last time i pressure washed my engine on my gasser 94 it didnt run right for a week or so, thing was coughin and sputtering all over. I replaced the plugs and wired before i washed it too, so it couldnt have been a wire, needless to say i never will do that again. Also there is a guy i know that washed his engine and siezed his vac pump. Guess ya gotta be careful what you spray including the alt... I have a scale at school, i will weight the front of my truck for ya, i also too have a brush guard, cant be over 100 lbs tho.....

1. + 2. -> Don't know !

3. Yes, 3" Lift is enough to fit/clear those tires. Got them on mine with a 3" Rancho Lift. See "garage"/Photo Album for pics.

Thanks guys. Comments are as always appreciated. I used up my last tube of RTV a few weeks ago so I'll have to grab some more and seal that thing up for good. AS you see in the pictures, the way I designed it put the connection point and wiring way above the bumper so as to avoid any and all water(or anything else for that matter) getting near the connection. So far, everyday I've checked it the mounting bracket hasn't moved an inch, and the FSD/heat sink are just slightly warm. Even after hours of driving. So It works quite well.

Anybody else hear about a thing where the stock rims can only be rigged with 245's? Firend of mine has a 93 Silverado 6.5 and he said the stock rims can only be rigged with 245's and aftermarket rims are needed in order to use anything else.

Alright how bout somebody who doesn't have 4 wheel drive maybe? Mines a C/3500 so naturally no 4x4...

You just have to know your stock rim width, smallest I've seen is 7". And stock options only went up to 245 maybe, but if you look up a tires spec even 265s will fit to a 7" wide rim, depending on the height ratio, like up to 265/70/16 will work. If you have 8" wide stock rims then you can fit on 285s for sure. Some 285s will fit to 7.5" wide rims.

Stock wheels are good for 245 and 265 tires, but not for 285.
On my stock alloy rims are 265/75/ R16 and the 285/75/ R16 are on 8X16 Alcoas.

Pic 1-3 -> stock rim with 265
Pic 4 -> Alcoa with 285

I see. Well then I guess its either new rims and the 285's or stocks for another couple years with the 265's.

Theres a set of 265 Mickey Thompsons for 100 a piece that looks pretty damn good I've been looking at, and the same ones come in a 285 size as well.

The stock steel rims are incredibly heavy, so if getting some aftermarket aluminum you might drop 25lbs of unprung weight too. I got some 17" aluminum alloy on mine, been happy with them. But I have the 5 bolt, and there is a lot more available for the 8 bolt.

alluminums are good and lightweight but you get a knick in them and you could be in alot of trouble. I'll take steel over alluminum for rims near anyday. Just a personal prefrence. My truck isn't an HD however so I have the 6 lug wheels. Like your 5's there not as common as the 8 lugs that are so poular with the other trucks.
