Well the last several weeks have been a real test of my patience.
Now Patience is a virtue they say, mines runs in inverse proportion to the length of time I have been awake.

This said all is finally running along fairly smooth.

The short block is assembled now with just the pan needing to be bolted on.
Heads are done and bagged up, ready to go.

The goofaw that was discovered a week ago with the one deck having been cut too far was a goody.
I have one special thickness head gasket coming from Cometic and it should be here this week.

Will be very happy to finally get this beast back together and running again.

Still hoping for mid July on the fire off.

I still need to get a set of injectors rebuilt though and probably should step up for a set of new glow plugs.

All for now

I just sent my heads out the other day. 400 bucks for a valve job and the accessories. Still have tons of parts to buy... I need to rebuild my injectors too, but the shop wants 430 bucks to do it.... f-that.... talked to ratman and he knows someone, so im going to try and send them to him... IM down to a block with an oil pan on it. Next im going to wire wheel the cylinders and clean the deck. Ill be happy to get mine done by the first snow fly. I am also replacing a lot of body panes to tho....

Good luck on your build MGW, You can do mine when your done with yours ;) :)

Thanks guys

My Plan for this summer had been a refit on the 91 Burb, up until the DaHooooley rook a crap.

later

MGW

You've been around long enough to know nothing ever goes as planned!

Keep up the good work MGW, I'm excited to hear it fire for the first time for you!

My hope is to be able to get back to work on it in the next day or so.

Early morning is my best time but trucking pays the bills so off I go. By late afternoon my patience quotient is down to near zero so I wont even unlock the toolbox.

At the stage things are at now, the build can and should progress fairly quickly.

Once I get the pan glued back on, the sucker can get turned upright and then the heads and the rest of the stuff can go on.

$$$$$$$$$$ are in real short supply now so I am wrestling with what to do about injectors.

I have the set that came out plus about 4 more sets from 6.5 td's that have sucumb to various serious issues.

May be able to sort through these and find 8 that will make muster.

Local shop gets $32 per unit to reman them. X8 is a tad more than I have at present to spend.

BUTTTTTTTTTT I dont want any issues down the road a few months, SOOOOOOOOOOOOO the jury is still out on this one.

I will make the final call once the engine is to the point of installing the fuel lines.

A few days away at this point.

Best

MGW/Robyn

Missy you can built a pop tester for next to nothing if you don't already have one, I'm sure you can rebuild them yourself with everything else you've done. Nice Sunday morning project for you. GIve you something to do.

Not interested in doing injectors.

I have had them apart though but I would have to go scrounge up the parts anyway from the shop. Not worth my time when they have all the tools and the expertise to do it right the first time.

Some years ago I probably would have given it a go but, now I am more interested in getting the truck going again with as little bother as I can get away with.

I have access to a POP tester though if need be.

Thanks for the vote of Confidence. :smile5:

Missy, did you order heads from clearwater florida?? Both my heads are junk, they are all cracked (check out my thread, head question). I am prolly going to purchase new heads from them, since they are garaunteed not to crack. Good luck!

DS
I ran out of $$$$ so I scrounged up a set of good used heads that had been gone through recently. The fellow told me it was only a few months and the engine lost a rod.

The Clearwater heads are good though. I used a set on my 94 Burb 3 years ago

I would have prefered a set of clearwater heads but the $$$$ were not available.

Had to buy a new radaitor and a few other items so something had to pay the price.

The heads I got are in good order and will do fine though.

Here are the latest pix.

No comment needed. :D

Got the Cometic Head gasket today and will get the heads on now.

Bought a new water pump yesterday along with the fresh Block heater.

Things should move ahead now.

Yellow? You been hanging out with the Ratman, or was there a sale on that paint?

LOL... lookin' good!

OMG
I hope so as I can no longer afford a new rig every two years like I used to.

Just want my truck back in usable condition is all.

I had plans for the summer to swap a 6.2 with a Banks kit into the 91 I picked up back in Jan after the snow went away.
So much for that plan Eh??

MGW

I love the yellow.

Rat and I are good friends. He lives only a short distance away from me.

Unfortunately we dont get to hang out much as we are both very busy people.

This will be the very first time that I have bolted the camp and not stuck with factory engine color.

Just got tired of the Black though.

Yellow looks good on a diesel me thinks.

I really gave the Old Chevy Orange a thought as well as the Red that was used in the 82 engines.

When GM powertrain took over they started swapping the GM engines all across the product lines and so went the Brand specific colors.

Heck the Olds engines used to be a real nice GOLD at one time I think.

Pontiac was a light blue.

On it goes.

MGW

His engine is the lighter colored cat yellow though.
