I can smell raw dieselno it will be black. might start out white but will turn black as you give it more fuel. I'd smell the exhaust to see what your burning

The reason for the caution, this was just discussed in another thread just a week or two ago. That guy was cautioned about using his car type compression gauge on his diesel truck, using an adapter hose.Thanks for the information

IIRC it was Will L that warned him that that gauge would explode in his hand.
That would make for a terrible day.
Thank You @ak diesel driver for the clarrification.Actually that was if you did a wet compression test as the oil could act like fuel and ignite. The gas one would only not read high enough
Lots of good info there I appreciate all the information everyone has given me was thinking of throwing in the towel and go back to gaswhen you start the compression testing, be sure to disnonnect the fuel shutoff solenoid and PMD. disable the lift pump too so it won't try to start with the gauge installed.
