To ATT or not part II Technical Discussion Only ?

I forgot in all above, that the one thing that did come out early on, and was reported in my 1st post where I was trying TDO-7/ATT a free exhaust with this turbo is a must do, mine worked with a 3.5" Banks stinger setup, but improved with a Heath free flowing 4" system & this was same as with my GM-8 turbo working better with full open exhaust.

So some assumptions are made (assumptions mother of most all misunderstandings) when swapping to a bigger turbo exhaust mods have already happened as even the GM-X turbo really benefits from that also, and should be IMO 1st building block rite up there with out of engine bay PMD/FSD remoting & gauges to see what is going on.

Just to let everyone know that the IP I got was straight from Stanadyne and was the latest and greatest new in the box. If I remember correctly it is a DS4 5521.

See above I got a bad one from them as well, I talked to guys @ Pensacola Fuel when I would visit their shop & tweak IPs there, bad IPs out right, or even off calibration some; are not uncommon, I'm not saying this is the case here but a possibility it is a contributing element/factor, low mpg & higher than what I would expect EGT even with your GM5 still puzzles me.

The turbo was removed early IMO somewhat understandingly; you were ready "to be done" with this; myself after seeing so many who have had successes with it, I would have tried all avenues with vendor to drill down exact root cause, but that is what I do for a living and unresolved issues make me lose sleep, plus I have other vehicles and can afford the down time.

I agree with Tim. Each time a guy here ask me what to do to upgrade, I always tell him, before thinking about any turbo upgrade, chip, reflash... prepare your exhaust.

Go at least straight pipe.

One truck working very fine here has a 4" line with a AT4040XL Aero Turbine muffler, mandrel bent downpipe and cross-over. Att + Heath tune + Heath CAI = just a slight puff of black smoke when flooring the pedal

Others just get straight pipe, straight pipe + 3535XL, ATT + Kojo or Heath tune, 1997 Airbox, and they do not smoke like described in that thread. To be honest, may be a bit more than with the GM-X, under heavy acceleration, but that's all. Nothing critical if you consider these tweaked ATT truck are running with fresh marine injectors.

Tazz, I believe something is wrong in your truck, the ATT just highlight that IMHO, but I trully doubt it is the culprit. I'm pretty sure an HX35 or HX40 should have shown the same result. Is your intake properly mounted?, leaky intake, problem with intake valves?... Does your truck receive the air she should receive? What about your cross-over?

I know of no product that has 100% satisfaction. These trucks from factory surely weren't.

The money was refunded, you can't ask for more than that.

What Leo said. Tons of happy customers, lots of different configurations. It's much easier to draw conflusions from that than from one instance where things just didn't work out...

The fact that Tazz got his money back and is not looking for another alternative should end this conversation.

I wish him well finding one that does work; we'll be watching with great interest, as there are other choices out there, and we'll cross that bridge when he makes his mind up on one of them.

I am sorry Tazz had trouble with the setup. Still a job to change out the turbo with mods required to install it.

The support given by the vendor is personal. I don't know of any other place gas or diesel that will take a return of a hot-rod part or major part like this. Exchange for defect maybe. This says a lot that a refund is offered and even more that it will be acted on.

Remember we are here to help each other out best we can. Not always going to get it 100% correct, but, we do try and with the best intentions of helping a fellow 6.5er.

Since when was this turbo ever listed as a so called hot-rod part? Every other place that I buy parts from will take a return back if said part does not work as described. It seems that I am having to defend myself here and I'm glad I had another member look at my truck, thanks Kenny. Yes I did get a full refund and I'd like to thank Patrick for that. In several other post, not in this thread, I can clearly remember the vendor stating that "If the turbo is not sufficient or I misrepresented the turbo in any matter I will buy it back. I put my money up when the talk is cheap, I have always said that customer satisfaction for me is number one." You know I've been trying to just give what information and observations that I've had with my truck but I'm beginning to lose patience with most everyone thinking that this is a one way street here. As far as another turbo, I will put on what was there and that will be just a rebuilt GM-8 from the shop right down the road from me.

Tazz not my intent to make you defend yourself. I thank you for standing up and posting up what you observed.

I had to be joking about a hot-rod part on a 6.5. Hot rod 6.5? :rof:

x2. The fact of the matter is, what Tazz bought did not work as he was told it would work. That IMO qualifies at "not satisfied/does not work as described".

Coming from someone that has a manual truck with a smaller(exhaust housing wise) non-gated turbo yes the large gaps in the gears(both the SM465 and the NV4500 have a huge gap at some point) does cause lots of smoke, especially if you don't get your shifts just right and end up lugging the engine. I can only imagine how bad my K-5 would smoke with a turbo that has a larger exhaust housing than the Banks charger.

Well, I don't want to open a can of worm, but:
.- this ATT didn't "work as described";
.- Patrick/Dennis issued a full refund to Tazz

Beyond Tazz deception, which is understandable, I believe there's no more to debate for now.

People are still very polite and none has crossed the red line yet. IMO, this converstion should end.

What should be useful to us now is to wait for Tazz feedback after he re-install a GM-8

Beyond Tazz deception

What is meant by that statement? Was it maybe worded wrong?

Damn! I really have to perform my english.

Thanks for the clarification Robzombie, and yes, this is what I meant : dissatisfaction.
In french, dissatisfaction is translated by deception (confirmed by Google translate).

I should have typed disappointment.

Please forgive a frenchie using wrong word :D

Hey no problem, that's what I thought you meant. I didn't know that French was your native language.

Matuva,
Désolé pour tout malentendu. J'espère que cela s'est traduit par la droite.

Yup, New caledonia is a french dependency in SW Pacific, close east Australia.

I believe that by " J'espère que cela s'est traduit par la droite", you meant "I hope this has translated/meant right"

which should be said in french "j'espére que cela est correctement traduit"....

I will no more trust 100% Google translate :D :D
