Timing Scanner

Im not sure the truck would run at TDCO of +3.5, that is way retarded. Are you sure you are not talking about the timing was 3.5 degrees when you did time set?

3.5 base timing with -1.94 TDC offset?

Here is a progression I went out and did just now.

You can see when I set the IP to get -1.94 the base timing would jump around but in general it jumps around from 3.5 to 4.0 and I get -1.94.
TDCO stock 8.9 with 3.6 base and -1.94 TDCO.jpgTDCO stock 8.9 with 4.0 base and -1.94 TDCO.jpg

Then I move IP a little towards driver side and timing is just over 4 degrees, bouncing from 4-4.5 degrees and I can't get it to set a valid TDCO, it goes to -2.02 and sets DTC 88.

I also then moved the IP more towards driver side and you see that it advances the base timing to 9 degrees, when PCM is requesting 0. And no way to get a valid TDCO value there.

In the last pic you can see where I initially had a valid TDCO before trying the relearn, and you actually see it as the base because now PCM is desiring 8.6, but it can't get below 9.3 actual.

So if someone says the scanners wont tell you the actual base and always say 3.5, at least mine will tell you :) Mine has little quirks, like in OBD1 the idle does not increase at all, but never sounds like its going die. When I do press the accelerator, the TDCO value retards, so if I am seeing -2.02 and timing is hovering around 4 degrees I might get it down to -1.94 TDCO by revving.

Some A-hole waited till about 30 seconds left and tried to ninja it from me........... Fortunately I covered my tracks and he fell 2 dollars short of my max bid of 40.00 so I got it for 38 beans. Still a great score.

Thanks a TON for the lead on that! 96gmc6.5l!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would actually like to see the timing done 1st hand on the OBD2s. My schedule is getting busy now but I can ship the tools to you if you need them . I will need them back for the CUCV though. It actually needs an IP.

Actually it didn't run too bad. Has alot more pep now though. And no it was the TDCO.

Buddy on your OBD1 with GMScan Tech (or whatever it's called) IIRC you can actually alter the timing without changing the TDCO. On OBD2 all you can do is a TDCO learn and change it within a certain range. So effectively you have to move the pump to get a different set of TDCO range. Still pretty new to this but that's my take on it.

Ahh crap Kenny, no fun without you there! Time isn't really on my side of late either, this was just a big impulse buy... I'm not even sure when I'll be able to do this, and still not really confident by any means on how to do it. When do you plan on doing your CUCV IP?

I still need to recieve this scanner, figure it out and whatnot. I tossed my old junk laptop a few years back, and severly kickin myself now, so askin around for an old junk laptop. It'll be a month or 2 before I do this.

I'd also like to coordinate with Guy and Joey and anyone else, possibly Detroit Dan and make a day of it. I have a carport that my computer sits on the other side of the window, so I can do it from there.

I need to do injectors, shocks, and start getting my plow ready. Also have a rear FSU to toss in. I'll play it by ear. Thanks for the offer.

Maybe one of those other guys has a laptop. You can put the software on any computer as many times as you want. You only get one cable though.

My Laptop is actually on the way out. The screen is dying. I have the injector socket as well. Never needed it onthe 6.2 was able to get them with a box wrench.

I think I am better off owning one of those, in case I have problems down the road.

I'll just buy one for 40 bux. Thanks though Kenny.

When do you plan on doing IP in your 6 duece?

Once I figure out the software, and with the proper tools, how long will it take to adjust tdc0? 20 minutes?

Laptops can be had on C-list for 50 bux or so. If i Hold out I can get one for free.....

Just need one with DC power, or a batt that holds a charge. DC better.

System reqirements are 386 and windows 3.1 :) Had that in 92 i think :)

Matt, I think that I have one or maybe even more old laptops that can handle that. I'll try digging through my computer graveyard this weekend and see if I have anything that has a good battery. I don't need them and was just going to toss them into the back of my truck and take them to be recycled. If the battery is bad, you can just buy an inverter. They run $20-30 for a cheap one, and you can use it for other things.
