Well now

With the DaHoooley all healed up, its time for Missy to start thinking about another project.

The plans are still very Fuzzy BUTTTTTTTTTTTT

Its been years since I have had what I would call a real "RIG"
The vehicles I (WE) have had have been just factory Suburbans and pickups.

I am really getting the Hots for a late 80's to 91 K Blazer diesel.

Finding one around here has proven to be a real task.

Everything I find is JUNK and Gas Powered.

Now I do have the 87 Diesel Burb sitting in the shop thats complete and runs fine.

The Body and interior are  well I got the thing cause it had a good diesel running gear.

I also have the option to do the diesel transplant into the sweet little 91 Burb that I own.

Giving thoughts to doing a 6" lift on the Burb and adding some 35" tires.

The 350 under the hood is tired and needs to find a new home.

Swapping the 6.2 from the 87 would be an easy thing to do.

The 87 has a fresh tranny along with a new Radiator and some other stuff.

I can scarf everything I need off the 87 to do the conversion.

I have a 93 Serp drive setup which happens to have the AC pump on the proper side too

I have a 6.5 fan and clutch so thats all ready to go.

The lift kits with new front springs and blocks for the back along with sundry other goodies are not too $$$$$ either.

$600 seems to be about the going price.

I had a 91 GMC Burb 1500 4x4 a couple years ago but a fellow can along and started stroking his wallet and throwing $$$$ numbers at me and I sold it

I should have kept that truck as it had it all. Factory 6.2 LIFTED with 35" tires.

And I sold it.

Oh well.

Here area couple pix

I am thinking of making the 91 (Red and Black one) just like the GMC

Actually the Chevy is nicer than the GMC by far.

The Red/Black one would make a great "Rig" with the lift, larger tires and definately needs a winch on the front.
I think a visor up top too would add some Pizazzzzzzz too. :D

Missy sits eyeing the 91 with a big grin, Yesssssssssssssss I do believe there are possibilities here.

Input is always welcome. :grouphug:

"Its been years since I have had what I would call a real "RIG""

Maybe I am wrong, but dont you have a big old "Star Car"? :D

Oh yeah

Thats a working girl though, not a truck stop queen.

I want a cool 4x4 again before I head to the big garage in the here after.

I want a daily driver that will turn a head or two.

Geez all I see downtown anymore is the Strokes and the Cummins with there stacks and 20 inch wheels.

Im old school, I love the look of a 35-40 inch tires on 15X12 alloy wheels.

I grew up on that stuff.

Its in the blood dont't ya know.

These little squatty tires on 20 inch wheels does not churn my butter, at all.
Looks funny me thinks.

Just my Opinion.

Missy pollishes up the Snap-On tools and gets ready for Her Next Crusade.

Maybe I should make a video "Short" Missy Good Wench and the Last Crusade. ):h

Hmmmm Name seems familiar. Oh I know, I will have to get a whip and a fedora. yesssssssssssssss

Off to ponder the road ahead

I agree 100% Missy!!!! Hate 40inchs tires with no side wall!!!! :mad2:

Good luck on your next build whatever you decide!

The little 91 Burb 1500 Pictured is likely going to be the VICTIM
This truck is a beauty inside and the outside is very straight.

It's got 3.73 gears so some big rubber won't kill the little 6.2

The gray one pictured had 35 inch tires and 3.42 gears
Not the best choice for sure

I have the 700R thats in the rig now with the gasser.
Has a shift kit I know but what else was done ????????

I can swap out the converter and install a diesel governor and things will be sweet.

Might have to do some mix and match on the VB as the truck likely has the lockup totally controled by the ECM and not the VB Hydraulics.

Swapping a VB is no biggy.

The 87 Burb has a good 700R and I'm sure it has the hydraulic controls as it is a diesel.

Either way its not a biggy.

I am thinking about a lot of things but I want a nice rig first and foremost.

The lovely red velour interior on the 91 is just, wELLLLLLLLLLLLLL its nice, nuff said.

Just trying to get a few things lined up.

Gonna start ripping the guts from the 87 Burb soon.

May list the thing for "parting out" on Craigs list to get rid of the sheet metal and other non needed parts.

Gonna keep nearly all the stuff from under the hood to make the conversion simple.

Radiator, Hydro boost, shroud, and all the other goodies.

The 87 battery trays are roached so I bought a fresh one for the LH side to go in the 91.

The fluid lines for the power brake unit and the steering are all good in the 87

Battery cables are crap in the 87 so will likely make/buy new ones.
The 91 has the stock little cables for the gasser.

I have extra battery hold down blocks from trips to the Bone heap.

Probably keep the axles from the 87 too as they have the same RPO codes as the 91 (ratio, brakes etc)

The sound pad on the firewall of the 87 is perfect so it can be fetched off while the engine is out and then placed on the 91 before the diesel goes back in.

Just time and love is all.

I hated to see the Banks go but I like having my property Taxes paid.

The taxes went up a bunch this year so ??????????/ whatcha gonna do??

I made money on the sale so its OK. Bought the Banks kit on a complete 6.2 with all the trimmings for $600 and sold the Banks for $800 and still have the 6.2. :smile5:

I dont need a HOT ROD just want a good reliable get in turn the key and go machine.

NO PMD too "This is a good thing" :D

83 GMC
I will likely leave the puter and stuff in the rig.
The puter will not do much for my application but I will leave allthe wirng intact.

The 350 will be for sale though.

You are dang right, the old R/V Burbs with 6.2s are about the best vehicle ever made!
About the only vehicle I know of that it is possible to haul a couple sheets of plywood, or 8 people and get 20mpg.

Those tiny whitewalls on the burb need to go too!

Them littlew tires are already history.

The 87 Burb had a set of 4 30/9.5X15's on some nice 8 inch wide factory wheels.

Tread was good.\

I also put the arm on the new set of Warn "U" twistem hubs :D

Swapped them onto the Burb last winter shortly after I got it.

I hate the factory auto lockers. Not nearly as much as I hate the thermal device on the 94/95 but nearly so.

Good old Warn hubs just dont give trouble.

I am not as young as I once was but I can certainly get out and twist the hubs when the need presents itself.

The 208 or 241 transfer case is not the beast that the Old 205 was but it works ok for most applications

The old 205 T case was a real monster.

I loved the early rigs with the 203 full time cases.

Had several and never had any issues in a Bazzzilllion miles.

I like my wheels to barely clear the brakes and my tires to have lots of sidewall as well.

My automatic hubs dried up on my '83, I put Warn premium ones on...no regrets. I hate the automatic hubs more than the thermal linear actuator...when it worked the actuator still worked in reverse (unlike those POS hubs).

We have a truck with the 203, it works, part of me would like to put the part-time conversion kit in it. The only bad thing I've heard about the 203 is the chain stretching over time. My '83 has a 208 in it, has almost 500k miles on it, no problems.

Funny that you should call the 205 old, they were still being used in 1991. Hint: in vehicles built alongside your '91 Suburban. ;)

Talk about dead weight...you couldn't gi ve those away back in the day. everyone wanted a 205..203's were ok if you put the shaft conversion in which who know's if they even still make.
Then again I ripped a NP205 in half turning 44's with an LS6. The driveshaft was laying on the ground with the output shaft of the 205 still attached. I took the rear shaft out and put it in 4wd and drove home on the front wheels with TC rippped in half. Don't make em like that anymore.
I have in my possesion a NP205 GM TC for a TH350 WITH midsection. Try finding one of those. I keep it for my someday to buy 69-72 Blazer.
