Today I dug out the spare engine that came with the 94 in my sig. It was supposed to be a low[10,000 mile] engine from a suburban that blew a head gasket. Heads were supposed to be checked out and ready to bolt on. Fel-pro head gaskets came with it. When I bought the truck I unloaded the engine and put it on a cart. I saw it was a "506" block so I wasn't thrilled to death about it.Stashed it away for the last year or so.:rolleyes5:
When I started looking it over I didn't see a "GM" cast in it anywhere. It also had extra mounting lugs on the side of the block and the block drains were in a spot NOT under the motor mount. A couple of other small things were different from my other 6.5s. A couple of extra mounting bosses at the rear of the valley and a drain tube from the valley to the driver's side above the oil cooler line ports. Since I've never seen a GEP engine in person I assumed it must be a chineese knock-off block.
I jut got done comparing my pictures to Bobbiemartin's GEP pictures. I have a GEP!!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I still need to look the heads over. They look like they were machined. They don't appear to have a ground finish on them. They do have the diamond pre-cups in them:thumbsup::thumbsup:
This is sooooo much better than a cracked 599 block. A couple of pics to get started

Very cool!

Does the mounting boss at the rear of the valley look like what a ctr mount turbo pedestal would bolt to - oil feed, etc.?

It's a shame the earlier GM blocks didn't execute the piston oil squirters better, because that form of piston cooling is an idea that's proven good in probably the majority of modern diesel engines (as well as quite a few turbo gassers). Some have 2 squirters per cylinder (the 2nd set having a sort of pop-off valve so they'll only squirt at higher rpms when there's additional/plenty oil pressure & volume available.

This is a much better weekend than last weekend. Last weekend I think a had a dark cloud following me around. Clear and sunny today.
The heads are GM heads:sad: so it won't be a purebred. It will be a mutt. With a strong block and ARP head studs it should be fine.
At this point,I believe it will be going in the 95 ex-cab in my sig. That truck only has 90,000 miles on it.

Hi,
Would you mind posting a picture of the back of the block & the oil pump? I would like to compare to mine. The valley drain tube is smashed and the only other picture I could find showed the same. Also, mine has oil squirters, but has a one piece oil pump, I thought the oil squirter blocks has a spacer plate on the pump. Thanks!

Just to let you know, Bobbiemartin is parting with a set of Genuine GEP heads in the classifieds sections if they haven't been taken already. Something to consider

Oh, and you bastard :D:D I want an optimizer!

That drain looks like it is smashed on mine also. I''have to take it off the stand to get pics, i believe. The oil pan should be coming off today. I'll get pics of the oil pump.

I saw those and thought about it. My pre-cups have been machined or ground so I would have to buy new ones. Not really in the budget.:nonod: I wouldn't mind having it a purebred.

A few pics for bobbie and the:eek: bad news. The heads that came with I believe are van heads[never seen them before]. The bolts to hold the intake manifold on are angled from the gasket surface. I thought the van/hummer heads had a whole different mounting angle from truck heads:mad2::mad2::shiiiiiite::shiiiiiite:

guess you have no choice but to make a purebread now huh? :D:D:D Even if you don't having an optimizer block is still sick. Now all we gotta do is find a way to get more fuel that doesn't cost us an arm and a leg.
