Today I dug out the spare engine that came with the 94 in my sig. It was supposed to be a low[10,000 mile] engine from a suburban that blew a head gasket. Heads were supposed to be checked out and ready to bolt on. Fel-pro head gaskets came with it. When I bought the truck I unloaded the engine and put it on a cart. I saw it was a "506" block so I wasn't thrilled to death about it.Stashed it away for the last year or so.:rolleyes5:
When I started looking it over I didn't see a "GM" cast in it anywhere. It also had extra mounting lugs on the side of the block and the block drains were in a spot NOT under the motor mount. A couple of other small things were different from my other 6.5s. A couple of extra mounting bosses at the rear of the valley and a drain tube from the valley to the driver's side above the oil cooler line ports. Since I've never seen a GEP engine in person I assumed it must be a chineese knock-off block.
I jut got done comparing my pictures to Bobbiemartin's GEP pictures. I have a GEP!!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I still need to look the heads over. They look like they were machined. They don't appear to have a ground finish on them. They do have the diamond pre-cups in them:thumbsup::thumbsup:
This is sooooo much better than a cracked 599 block. A couple of pics to get started
