T Stats

The one in question (190*), says "2nd design" and the 195*(W/the spring) says, "recommended Temp" in the AC Delco website.

Question is.......are the illustrations correct?

Just recently checked with a couple GM dealers here in Ontario & was surprised to hear they only list or have available 190s

I would suspect that a lot of people intended to get OEM stats, but ended up with 190s. Will work just fine, although I suspect lose slight bit of efficiency.

I went from 180* to A/C Delco 195* and gained about 4MPG. I can ask my supplier about them if you want. Seems like I paid around $17-$20 each for them. Can you supply the part # for the one you want?

So for the 94-95 Single t-stat, I saw a couple of Part No:
AC 12T45E: 195* (may not be available anymore, although the store in Buddy's link is still there)
AC 131-91: 190*

I also saw Kennedy sold the Robertshaw 190* for 94-95.

So which one is preferred?

Also, I saw so many different gasket? which one is the correct one for the 95 single t-stat?

I know, it is probably a digression from Rodd's thread but it is in the same subject.

My cost on AC 131-91: 190* is $33.44. Im sure you can get it local for less or close to the same. They did not show the 195* tstat. I will see if I still have the old box mine came out of for a part #.

What do ya think I'm leaving on the table running the 190? The heat works well & it's been plenty cold here...warms up pretty quick too.

Maybe a little MPG? Performance? I'm all ears & I would change it out in a heart beat if I thought there was something to gain...I drive it plenty enough miles weekly 400+ so if there is anything to gain please do share.

I have no comparison from 190 to 195 tstat, I do know my MPG suffered using a 180* Tstat. Leroy says as much as 4mpg on his between 180 and 195 stats. It could be negligible, it could be 1/2 mpg? It would not make a difference in performance, but potentially slight difference in efficiency. It has always been known that a hotter engine can run more efficient, because it takes energy to reject the heat. The cooling system is robbing the engine of energy. I think I saw an article in the first year of Maxtorque about that as well.

Even with a 180 Tstat the heat is real hot, very much so. If even a quarter mpg would pay for iteself I guess it would be worth trying a 195 over the 190. If you travel 400 miles a week that would be a quater gallon of fuel, which is 3.65 here, which would be about a dollar a week. So at a minimum I predict it would pay for itself in a years time.

I just swapped the stats and lost my 15mm socket in the valley doing the one on the bottom driver side. Luckily I got it in tight before I lost it. I noticed the heat went from 176 ti 187 and I got 195's. On one of the ones I pulled out the rubber boot on the back was missing. Either it never had it or it is in my system somewhere. We'll see where the fuel economy goes.

Have you got a magnet you can shove down there to retrieve the socket? I've fished screws from there with a magnet.

what line is the gauge? Like how many ticks above X and below Y? I think the newer trucks have differnt gauge values than the older dash style.

My Thermostat just gave up. It shows less than 180*.

I am going to put Robershaw 190* from Kennedy Diesel. Price is right at $10 + Shipping.

I Have 1 ACDelco sitting here on my desk. ACC# 131-103 - GM# 12559336 It's 1 of the 2 needed for the dual t-stat setup. I have a single set up. No dealer pricing here, Make me an offer and paypal me some cash, and I'll send it to you! <-- Who ever might need it. :D

I like how Kennedy says this

"Thermostat temperature selection is more a matter of personal preference. I personally prefer the 195° stats, but the majority use the 180° stat." - JK

Maybe its because he prefers better mpg. He also sell the 195* Robert Shaw T-stat for the dual T-stat housing. The 195* ACdelco can be had for $5 more, but if either is better quality I dont know.

I noticed the gauge did read higher but the temp reading I took came from my scan tool.

The magnet I have is too big to get down in there. I will get it when I replace my lower intake.
