Suburban Renewal – 15,000 miles later

So you did your Motor Mounts "3" times.....Used both poly inserts and finally decided to go with the "Made in China" mounts they sell at the dealer?

GM P/N number for both sides are the same (for 2 wheel drive, 2X4)....Correct?

Well that about seals the deal for me, OEM/China Mounts it will be......Your a Maniac!! I can't believe you did mounts 3 times.....How much time between each swap, did you give it a little time to get use to the feel, or did you know right away?

For me it was an immediate difference between the mounts. I did run it for a week with each set, and I decided on running teh GM made in CANADA mounts that GM still offerred in 09. I still have a set of low milage made in canada mounts out in teh shop that have 3/16" limiter blocks installed in them, and I also have a set of the poly inserts like teh ones in Kennedy's write-up with less than 500 miles on them if anybody wants em(there taking up space in teh tool box that I would like to get back).

How much?

What are limiter blocks?

The CANADA OEM mounts were China?......The ones you are running in your truck now?

My current mounts said made in CANADA on them with the little CANADIAN leaf on it. They were also 4X4 mounts if it makes a differrence. I know the 6.5 mounts used to be made in CANADA up until 09 when GM sourced them out to China. The limiter blocks go inside the mounts in the air gap in the clam shells between the rubber and the housing so the engine can't rock as far. I modifyed them for my DURAMAX swap this way as I didn't want the extra torque to be able to all be riding on the floating blocks, so I put the limiters in to reduce how much they could rock. I found a new set of GM ones so I put them in since I already had everything out, and kept my other ones for spares.

How much?

$20 shipped ought to cover them. I paid quite a bit more than that for them, and now I have no use for them. I guess they work better in the 2WD mounts than the 4X4 mounts from what I was told.

Never heard of the limiter blocks......But it seems they would "help" solve the problem of the OEM mounts twisting and getting crushed from torque and what not.....Got a pic?

Or a P/N# for the limiter blocks?

Shells are different 4x4 to 2wd

The 2WD shells are a flat mounting design whereas the 4X4 ones are a stepped design on the bottom to clear the diff mounts.

You can see in this pic from my build thread. They are just pieces of 1/4" steel about 1" wide wedged into where teh air gap would be in the rubber mounts, then tack welded into place. They do add a little to the idle vibrations, but were well worth it I think. I know when I sat teh DURAMAX down on my 6.5 mounts they dropped down in the shells a bit to the bottom which is why I put the limiter blocks in as I didn't want to chance it settling down as much over time. 2 years later, and I know a good 650+ foot pounds of torque from her(even on my small tow tune) and it is stil lsitting up where I put it in at.

The blue arrow shows where I put them at.

Why are you holding 2X4 Mounts.......Mistake?

Motormount-1.jpg

I am holding two 2WD motor mounts because, as the original picture caption states, the worn one is the cheap aftermarket motor mount after about 15,000 miles, the new one is the GM Chinese motor mount. Since my Sub is 2WD, I removed a 2WD mount and, oddly enough, installed a new 2WD mount in its place.

Sorry thought your sub was a 4X4.........I was thinking of FERM......He's a 4X4 D Max swap.

It would be kind of odd replacing it with a 4X4 Mount :rolleyes5:

I have a couple thousand miles on my ENS-3-1121R in my 2wd with the 5.9 cummins setting on them. They seem to be doing great, I was worried about vibrations from the poly with the cummins, it vibrates very little if anymore than the 6.5 did, couldn't ask for much better and holds the cummins weight/torque fine. There much smoother than my 94 dodge with a cummins are, it vibrates the whole truck at idle.
