Still Got Vibration...

I am leaning on the drive shaft or input on the tail of the tcase. Did you try flipping the drive shaft 180deg on the ujoints yet? Try greasing the slip on the input splines of the drive shaft into the tcase? I think you said the ujoint have been checked?

When I had the Shop take a Look at it, I told them to Flip it 180* from where it was when they took it Out.

Yep, U-Joints were Checked and said to be fine.

James, has the drive shaft been on a machine to see if it is balanced? The thought I am having is. When you raise a truck the drive shaft pulls out of the TC. So that means when you lower it the slip yoke goes into the TC. Do you think there is a chance since you lowered the truck so much you bottomed out the slip yoke or were close. If you were close and hit a bump shoving the drive shaft in and it had no where to go maybe the drive shaft was bent slightly. Just a thought......

I don't think I Lowered it THAT much to cause any Damage. It was just 3" Shackles and 3" Hangers, for a 6" Total Drop in the Rear.

I don't feel ANY Vibration on Take Off though. Whether I go Slow and Baby it, or Quick and Hammer it. That's what's got me.

At this Point, to me, anything is Possible.

I'm just gonne keep on Looking at stuff, Changing things, and taking Advice until it gets Solved, or whatever it causing the Vibration Falls Off. :nonod:

Today just for shits and giggles I threw the jack under the hitch and raised the chassis up about an inch. Before this I scribed a line on slip yoke where the seal ends. When I got back under the yoke had pulled out about 1/8".

Lets hope it does not get to this point...

For Reference, I Guess this is how Far mine has Moved from being Dropped to being Raised back Up. I put my Finger there to use for Measurement for how much it's Moved:

James I think the only way to tell how much movement you had left is to drop the drive shaft. Then line up the mark and see how much more will go in the TC. There is 2 1/2"showing between the lines. I have a 1 1/2" block in the rear which gives me a little more than stock. If you disconnect the drive shaft mark it then reinstall it in 180*. This way you know for sure it was turned.

so what you are saying is lowering could have caused problems if the yolk was bottoming out in the Transfer case housing...or the tail shaft bottomed in the yolk of the driveshaft...either one...I dunno...

Not sure if that is what happened to James. If the differential moves up and down the drive shaft moves in and out of the the TC/Trans. If it cant "slip" something has to give.

Ok, but when I had it Lowered, it didn't have a Vibration, then it Slowly Developed one, then while it was Lowered, I had the Tranny "Built", still had the Vibration when it Left the Shop, then I Raised it back Up to Leveled Height, and the Vibration is still there.

So while things were being Rebuilt, wouldn't that have taken care of anything that might have gotten Damaged in the Trans or Transfer Case?

The drive shaft may have taken the punishment instead of the trans...it could be warped slightly/untrue... I'd hate to say it's the trans when you can have the driveshaft looked at by a driveline shop fairly cheap... "if" it was bottoming for a while...something had to give...

did the drive line shop actually remove the joints and the shaft to check them?? I have a nasty vibration at 5mph to about 15mph and then it went away...it would shake the whole truck, took it to a shop they said u joints were fine its something in ur trasnfer case....well talked to a guy on here and he said change the carrier bearing..welp when taking the drive shaft down out of the truck i took the bolts off the axle flange and the shaft SHOULD have falled to the ground and it stood as straight as could be!!! hmmmmm i do believe that them U joints was stuck just a little!! changed 2 u joints on the shaft and its smoother now then when I bought the truck in October!!! Just my experiece!!!

They said they Took it Out and Looked it over, and everything was fine.

Now, if they ACTUALLY did that.... Because this is the same Shop that said my Truck was "Special" and they couldn't Inspect it.

That's why I like to do as much as I can myself. You know its done right when you do it. James I think I remember you just recently buying a bunch of new tools. Get under there and get them dirty. Checking the u joints is only a two beer job at best.):h

I've never done something like this though, is it something that can be done with just Rolling under the Truck, and at the most getting it up in the air on just Jack Stands?

You should be able to get the drive shaft out without lifting the truck. Be sure to chock the wheels. Mark an end of the cap and the yoke so you know how it was in. Remove the two straps that are over the caps of the U joint. You might need to pry the drive shaft forward to clear the yoke. Move the drive shaft forward to the mark in your pictures then see how much more you can go until it bottoms out (earlier post). Watch that the caps don't try and come off while you prying the drive shaft forward. If you don't find anything abnormal in the u joints rotate it 180* and put it back in. If you still have the vibration I would take it back out and take it to a shop and see if it is balanced.

'nother little tidbit of info, wrap electrical tape around the end of the caps once you get it popped out of the yoke. They will stay out and you won't have to play 52 needle bearing pickup. Also, drain pan under the output of the transfercase, it's gonna drip some once you pull that yoke out.

Tape like this:

You should be able to slide under there and sit up once you're in front of the diff. Make sure to set the parking brake and block the wheels.

Fair warning... the U-Joint caps will probably be rusted to the yoke on the diff if the driveshaft hasn't been removed recently.

We had to bang and pry Nick's apart.

Changed the Fluid back to Royal Purple, which I had in before the Amsoil and no Vibration.

...Vibration is still there.

NEXT!!
