Starter bolt size

My theory is that those heli coils rusted out and me having the starter in and out multiple times not knowing that those were what was in there, probably disintegrated them until the one fell apart and the bolt fell out.. put all the strain on the other bolt and disintegrated that helicoil

#6 bolt in denata's diagram is what moved on my starter and allowed the rear part of the starter to twist a tad bit after installing my missing bracket back when I first got the truck. I don't think the new power master starter have those bolts to be able to move like that. you might want to look at one as a replacement starter once your brother gets the bolt holes on the block reworked.

got truck back yesterday... bracket was hanging from block.... so at least I didn't loose the bracket... Stopped at a.z . Got a new starter out of box to find size... That's when I noticed it's a stud... CRAP!!. .. bought bolts anything.. @dbrannon79 nailed it 1/4 -20....but not the damn srater has to come back out to drill out the rest of the stud.(assume there's some left in there.)

I asume the stud broke off from the starter? when you pull it back off take a good look at the face where the starter fits flush to the block on the main bolts. make sure the mating surface is nice n flat and mates flush with the block as not to have any ware spots that would cause the starter to "rock" uneven on the block. if it dose have an uneven surface caused by the loose bolts, then the starter needs to be replaced.
