Starter bolt size

Can anybody tell me the correct starter bolt to use for a 1997 c 3500 6.5 turbo diesel... One of the two big bolts that hold the starter in fell out,. So I need to know the length the thread all that stuff.

Go to the dealer and get the correct bolt. It has a knurled spot on it to make it fit tighter

Crap.. was afraid of that...this ain't a good situation.

Most auto parts stores usually have something in the help section that might get you by until you get a good one

definitely get factory only. After seeing freeplay allowed by arp ones- I would not even get those.

Are the ones out of a 6.0 or 6.2 the same?

This just keeps getting better... I got the new bolts.. but the one that was missing had snapped off.. now I got to figure out how to get the piece out of there so I can put the new one in

Just barely got done doing this on my mock up block
Mine was broken off about 1/2" deep in the block, I'm assuming where the threads started. Anyways I used a transfer punch to get a center mark then drilled and used an easy out. Came right out. If you're careful you might be able to use the bolt hole in the starter as a guide to get started and then pull the starter and finish drilling

mine broken the exact same place yours did about half an inch into the block...What do you mean use a pic and spin it out?... I literally just put the starter back in with the one bolt. Figured I would slide one of the new bolts up in there and hold it in place while the wife starts the truck...

Reach into the hole with a tool similar to this and try to back it out by using the pick around the outside edges

Ok gonna try it...I figured it would be really tight in there

Patience is key, don't use a hammer. If you can't get it to spin out then you'll have to drill it. Left hand drill bits will sometimes back them out in the process of drilling

So you mean drilling with drill in reverse?

But not with a regular drill bit, it has to cut in reverse
