Rock Auto Injectors

burb has A/C and i just done mine 3 days ago in 1 hour 45min's.....this has been twice in 4 months:eek::eek:......china leakers replaced with Bosch's.....first time was almost 3 hours:sad:......i'm gettin' quicker:D ......no leaks now!!!!

btw inter well stayed in....

Took me 8 hours :) Then again, I paint stupid things here and there, and scrape rust and get sidetracked....

Now that I'm showered and done with it doesn't feel like all that bad of a job. I was relocating my license plate and painting the bracket and stuff when the mail man came with the injectors. Got a late start, but if I didn't do it today it would have to wait weeks.

I had a worse time getting the old return lines off than anything else. I would break the lines in half trying to pull them off, and they weren't that bad shape.

I also wish I had a 7/8 wrench with more of an offset. And a large pipe or another wrench large enough to use for leverage on it.

I ended up using my suction gun pump case (looks like a grease gun) to go over my wrench. They were stubborn EVERY SINGLE Turn until they were out.

I wrecked the suction pump gun, so I need to go to Harbor frieght and get another for $3.99 :)

Also cleaned up the glows down yonder once I could see them. The plastic covers are all broken... I alraedy changed out drivers bank, i'll do the Passenger side next year when I do ATT.

I'm glad I took fender out too, My heater core hose was resting on my downpipe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe it didn't melt through. It just had a shiny spot!!!!!!

yes you did a lot more than i did.....i was on a mission.....need them in for my new GL4....she fly's low now!!!

glad your ol' fat bottom is runnin' good!!!

I never intended on doing all this stuff to my rig myself. Perhaps its a blessing that I had classic PMD failures, and that Walt from SS Diesel is a lying salesman. Otherwise I would have never found all you guys here, and be paying out the dumper to have all this stuff done.

This group of guys (and gal) and all the information is just wonderful.

These engines really are simple, and once you get the jist of it very easy.

Oil pan... scanner.... Adjusting TDC Offset... Head... And all the mods! I never would have thought I would be doing anythig but putting in diesel fuel instead of gasoline.

Thanks again to all of you. Not only is this a invaluable resource for our rigs, but its also great entertainment reading about everyone elses truck adventures.

Matt, where did you get your installation kit/parts?

Accurate diesel via E-Bay. Ordered Sunday, arrived Wednesday. 25 bux or so.

All I used were the Copper crush rings, and return lines.

Not sure why the kits come with upper plenum gaskets.

Update.

Truck runs absolutely fantastic. I was cruisin on the highway on the way home and hit a fresh paved area and heart dropped and looked at tach expecting it to see 0 thinking it stalled! Nope, 2,000rpm, running so smooth.

Low end peppyness is restored, which was at a loss as I'm running 10% Biodiesel to use it up. When switching from SAE-30 ND to Bio for lube, I noticed slight power loss. Now Its running better than ever, should have done this 30,000 miles ago. Can't wait to get back to SAE-30 and reap the benefits!

At startup my white smoke is now black/grey So i 'm pretty sure my Pass side injectors are shot or wiring or both. I'll tackle that in a few weeks.

I replaced these on a whim thinking I had leak down getting worse, when I was just experiencing Glow plug failure/fatigue on the pass side. (already changed out the drivers last winter).

OH WEll. Absolutely no regrets.

Another note. I never put that heat shield back in as it took me an hour to remove it as it was rusty busty in there. (Yep SS even gets rust deposits from attached rust)...

Now I have forum paranonia about turbo heat going into my Pass head and aiding in cracking my block :)

Anyone else running without it? I was going to wait to next year ATT install to put it back.... Will make glowplug job easier without. Winters coming, so no forum paranoia in cold weather, just gelled fuel paranoia, but i concored that with my Racor's clear bowl and FP Gauge!

Matt, in your collection of tools do you have a slide hammer?

If so, get yourself an extra pair of vice grips and a 5/8 fine thread nut. Weld nut to adjusting bolt of vice grips. Grab hold of heat shield and it will pop right out with the slide hammer.

Also comes in handy for other jobs.

I will pick one up at harbor frieght :) Does it go back in easily? At start of job I didn't remove the CDR, Turbo brace and all that good stuff, so I popped the heatshield upward, then slid it out towards the radiator and fussed with it in the fan and eventually got it to drop down and got it caught up on the idler arm and finally out. LOL.

I did remove all that stuff to change injectors 4 and 6. So I assume it goes in and out easier in a verticle motion :)

I wonder If I disrupted glowplug wiring during that forward slide..........

Either way I need a fresh set on that bank, no better time to do it than before winter when its still warm outside... 40 bux is little money to have faith in clean fast starts all winter long.

Great idea, would you happen to have a picture?

I will re-install after changing out glowplugs.

Forget about increased fuel economy for a few weeks, I can't keep my foot outta it. Pulls so strong and turbo boosted slingshots past other vehicles like they're standing still.... Must stop.

I had the turbo almost all put back on when I realized I forgot the put the heat shield back on, so everything came back apart. Mine actually wasn't rusted too bad.
