reman IP in Canada

You could probably get away without peening as it is likely different than the cast in an engine block, more like a swather guard.

I'm just in the habit of doing it.

Well, I am back. Does any body have a known good IP for me if needed. If so how much? Let me know because I think that it has almost come to that. Thanks

Mudbath, read my write up about rebuilding a DS4,it'll tell ye lots. Its floating around somewhere on the site(should've gone in the sticky's IMO)

I can help you with pump parts or a untested but believed to be good IP(dealer take off,bad PMD)

Is this pump still available to me if I need it? Is it something you would feel comfortable putting into your own truck? Let me know Simon, thanks Bob

Well I got the new to me pump in and it is doing the same thing in GMTDScan Tech. I have a snapshot attached and what is bugging me is where it says Actual injection pump timing I rotated the pump quite a bit to passenger side and got it down to the 28.95 Deg* (was at 35 Deg * and looking at old snapshots, has alway been high). Is this the same number that is shown in Time Set as base timing which I believe seeing as 3.5 Deg * or as someone else said 3.8 Deg * which will get you to a -1.50 to -1.85 range of TDC offset (when setting TDC offset)

This is killing me, new pump and all the labour involved and runs the same. Is there a chance that the Injection pump gear has always been out? I believe the PO had the pump replaced years ago under warrantee, going back through his records he supplied he has alway fought with cold starts. Once started though it runs good and has always had power and no smoke, this is why I wondered how the pump could be out but still run good warm. I am going to post a new thread with snapshot just to see if I can get some fresh input from the new info and the fact the the pump now has been changed.

I'm not sure why but your desired and actual timing are 6 deg. apart.

Edit: should have read Desired and Measured.

The 3.5 deg is what is commanded in Time Set, the 28 deg is commanded by the pcm I believe. It will change with engine speed.

Could be because I turned the pump a fair bit to passengers side. Older snapshots they were equal. I would like to be able to place the crank at TDC using the harmonic balancer line but there is no pointer on my timing cover just two holes where it looks like one could be. If I could even use those holes to reference the line on the harmonic balancer, I would be able to see the IP timing gear through the oil filler tube hole to see if the IP timing is out.

The pin that goes through the gear is in line with gear timing dot so if I know where to put the crank then the pin should be straight up. I don't mind pulling the water pump etc off if I know it is out. But ripping it apart only to find it is timed properly would suck after all the other work I have done already. I suspect that the pump timing must be off to have that much Actual injection timing in the snap shot.

I would move it back or at least have the fsos vertical.

I looked at some of my old snapshots and my Actual timing is in the mid thirties. I don't think you need to worry about the Actual timing. Try to get the des. and measured the same.

I sure I can get them the same if pump was vertical. But still starts cold like POS and still cannot do "TDC Time Set" or "TDC Learn" engine will stall. I figure the IP timing gear must be out a tooth or two. I have a couple pictures of harmonic balancer mark and IP gear pin position (pin is in line with timing gear DOT)

I don't know why they are upside down, they are not in the files I am sending. Right now I have the harmonic balancer line 1/2 way between the bolt holes and the IP gear is definitely not vertical.

I noticed in your snapshot the engine temp was 145*, you can get it over 170*? It needs to be to do Time set and TDCOffset.

Is the coolant sensor in the crossover good? It will determine the glow cycle and the timing advance at startup will be set by the pcm based on coolant temp. This is unrelated to your Time Set and TDCOffset.

Yes it was changed and right now I have the fan and belt off so I did not run it up to 180* But all other times it was at 180* or higher and all codes cleared.

i would put the word out your looking for a pointer. I don't think it's supposed to be 1/2 way between the holes. Have you tried unplugging the CPS and see if it will start.

With CPS unplugged it will start and run, if CPS is plugged in and Optics sensor unplugged it won't. Thought I had a bad CPS, which was replaced when I did HG and water pump. So I ordered another one with same results. I don't actually need a pointer even a picture for reference would work. If I can't get a reference I will have to pull the front apart and use the Dots.

Just tried starting it this morning and with the 60G glows I have to give it a little longer glow then it starts and runs smooth. Without the extra it will run a little rough and smoke, nothing like before though. I don't know what normal is because it has always (since I have had the truck) been like this. Now she can keep her old nick name "Old Smoky" thanks everyone.
