Radiator Leak

My two cents, I NEVER buy the premix! Why pay $5+ for two quarts of WATER? Besides, for places like Montana (or here in Lincoln where we hit -26°F one night and -31°F the next during that February cold snap that crippled Texas) or here in Nebraska where winter temps can hit -20 to -30°F frequently, why risk cooling system freeze up and the resultant popping of block/head freeze plugs and the expense/hassle of replacing them? I like to run at least a 60/40, if not the max 70/30, of good ol' green ethylene glycol Prestone, Zerex or SuperTech to not only give me maximum freeze protection, but also boilover protection (having the comfort that boilover point is 265°F when the temp gauge hits a spike of 210° and head passage temps may spike at 230°+).

Get the jugs of straight green ethylene glycol, the couple of extra bucks more than make up the ability to mix with 75 cents a gallon distilled water to a 60/40 or 70/30 concentration. Then take the remaining antifreeze and mix it to the same ratio and mark the jug as such. Now you have your reserve mix to top off the system as you do the air burp procedure and have some to top off the cold reservoir, and maybe some left over for routine maintenance, too!

You're NOT living in namby-pamby Mediterranean Climate SoCal any more!

Now, Death Valley or Ft. Irwin where summer daytime temps can and often do hit 120°+F (I still vividly remember the day out in "the box" at Ft. Irwin back over Labor Day weekend '96 in the shade of the cammo netting stretched between the two APC's at the TOC the wetbulb thermometer reading 131°F!) and NO overheating issues with our HMMMV's, or other diesel powered vehicles because they were all running a 70/30 mix with Water Wetter, @Will L. (Say THAT 3x's fast, Water Wetter Will! 🤣 🤣🤣)

Returned the Dexcool to Walmart. Here are my Choices at Walmart:

I have never tried Asian, which I find intriguing.

There is a second Walmart in Missoula which I will check today. Does Costco carry coolant? Still looking for distilled water.

No distilled water anywhere in Missoula. So 8 bottles of the Prestone All Vehicles Pre-Mix it is. Nothing else I could do.

We live in the banana belt of Montana. I just plug it in when it gets real cold. We have maybe 4 or 5 days a year below zero.

AH, NTC where the temps can go from hell hot during the day and ice cold at night..

OK Radiator is in, but the hose from the overflow reservoir is much bigger than the the fitting on the tank:

What should I do? Find a reducer to take the hose to a smaller hose?

This is kind lame for what is supposed to be a top of the line replacement radiator.

P.S. That coolant I got was green.

The champion radiator is working fine. No leaks. Dash temp gauge pegs at 185. Like Les said, if it were truly a replacement, they should have the right fittings for the transmission lines welded in so a reducing fitting is not required. Similarly, the fitting for the coolant overflow should be the right size = bigger. Other than those issues, it's functioning, so I am happy with that and thanks for the recommendation and advice.

Yuppers, I am well satisfied with the radiator I got.

Understanding what the pump is and what it’s feeding...would be interesting to see what the size change does. It’s a restriction in flow or an increase in pressure. But depending what the pump itself is- and what it feeds- makes all the difference

Too complicated for me. I’ll leave that for you guys to figure out.
