Racor ?'s

If you read the blue writing they left in place of the link it give an explanation. My issue w/ the explanation is it is incorrect. I just went to every supporting vendor website looking for Racor filters and didn't find any. So if the mod that deleted it would like to post a link to a supporting vendor that sells them I will gladly take a look at what they have. I have even emailed and called a few of the vendors that looked like they might be able to get them before I started this thread and they didn't sell them. In addition in the past (before the big change) We always knew which moderator deleted a link so if we had any questions we could take it up w/ them. Finally, I agree that if a link is for a product one of the supporting vendors sell then it should be deleted. My issue is that if it isn't in direct competition to any of the vendors then it should stay. Just my 2 cents.

I removed the link my apology for leaving it off, it was me which I normally do, I was in between flights at the airport:oops: as I know several vendors lubrication specialist being one that carries Racor items, link was removed no harm no foul, as vendors need to update their catalog,

Only thing I think we ought to do before posting a ebay link even if their website does not show a particular item is direct contact them, aparently Rodd you attempted to identify it,

So in future when posting ebay links lets add a disclamer that says, no apparent vendor for this here, so I am posting a ebay link ......

That way vendors see if their product sheet needs to be updated, or gives them the opportunity to refute the claim they don't carry the product, but it shows we are trying to live to our agreement to them the advertising rights they paid for here.

So many folks just post ebay links without thinking of that, also anytime you see an issue in the forum you wish to question, unknown moderator link removal for instance, use the report post button bottom left triangle with asterisk in it, then it will go to all mods & we'll see it & discuss.

I'll do some digging around to see if still carried at Lube Specialist or another vendor, and if nobody carrys them will repost the link. maybe it's something they should carry but don't know the market opportunity, Walking J hint-hint :D Racor & FTB items "all things fuel" might be a good niche for you.

Racor and Wix elements are treated with chemical "Aqua block" that separated water, same stuff that is supposed to be on the on engine OEM style filter.

Also since water is heavier than fuel, the way the fuel enters the system, it fills the bowl up first, then the filter pulls from the top of the bowl, so all the water, crud, rust and anything else heavier than fuel will not get sucked into the filter unless you let the bowl fill up with said crud.

Bowl is large enough so after a few weeks or months it shouldn't fill up, but you see crud at the bottom.

I'd get a unit with the built in primer button. Then to drain the crud, you just turn the drain valve at the bottom, and pump the pumper a few times until crud is out.

Also when you install, I cracked the main filter mgr bleeder, and just pumped the primer on the new racor, until good ol' fuel came dripping down the engine :) Done deal.

Thanks for the follow up Tim.

Will a racor 390RC work on our trucks? It has a 90 gal per hr flow w/ 3/8" lines and a line for coolant if I need a heater. Any thoughts.

Of course. Anything 45GPH or over will be fine. Size/Features are up to you. Keep in mind measurements, they are alot bigger than the little thumbnail pictures! Bigger isn't always better.

Like I mentioned before, I really like the built in primer pump.

I am using a 490R12 which i believe is the same filter settup that matt b is running. I was very happy with the quality of the unit. Despite what i have heard others say, i believe that the primer bulb is a must. It works great, and i was amazed with the speed at which fuel was drawn up to the filter. It has no problems pushing fuel up to the factory fuel manager too. The filter also has the 12v fuel heater which i have yet to hook up.

My biggest concern for mounting this filter settup is the height of the entire unit (I believe it was about 11inches). It was hard finding a spot on a pickup to find that much clearance. I ended up mounting it right before the left rear tire, bolting it to the bed crossmember. My thought with this spot was that I could also change the filter without laying on my back under the truck getting drenched in diesel.

I didnt want the settup to get covered with mud, water, and road salt, so I cut a piece of rubber mudflap to follow the contours of the fenderwell and screwed it into place. It seems to work well, so well that i might do the same thing front and back on both sides to keep mud out from under the bed and rear bumper.

On a quick side note: I would really like to be able to post where I bought the filter settup to help fellow members. It was from a company that refurbishes these units for less than half the normal cost, and the customer service was great when trying to deal with my shipping problems. Now i can understand that we want to support the vendors that support us, which i do when i can. But I really dont see the harm in providing alternative sources for parts and such. This is what normally sets us apart from the "other place."

I realize that the vendors cant be on top of every post to jump in and offer their products and services. So is there a better way to provide a list of available products and which vendors carry them? I found that while searching for pumps, vendors that carried them, didnt neccesarily list they did. Just trying to come up with ideas. No harm intended. thanks

Sierra, did you find a source for the mating pigtail for the heater unit? I need one, and one fast, as winter is coming. Not sure If i will need the heater at all, but want to be able to use it, without hacking it up when its -5 out....

May have to buy a generic 2 wire and cut the racors factory off, but I hate to do that.

I would think that if the vendors don't offer a refurbished unit that it wouldn't be considered a like item.

Post the link and if it is not against the rules it will stay. If it is against the rules it will be removed.

You can let the staff review, discuss, and decide.

Matt, the conector is quite generic. I cannont remeber the namebrand..i think weatherpack or something like that, but the connectors are common to those found on our trucks from the factory in 2, 3, and 4 wire versions. The truck plug for the stock lift pump will work for the heater i believe if you arent using it for your walbro settup.

Like I said in my earlier post none of the vendors offer Racor's. You should be able to post it. If you don't want to you can PM me the info.

Thanks!

Rodd

PM sent.

And as mentioned earier, this place sells refurbished units.

http://stores.ebay.com/pbtxxxswholesale

Very customer friendly and easy to deal with. You may have to wait to find the exact model you are looking for. They dont always have everything listed in auction.

Mods..if you feel this must be removed then do so, and i wil send the link to members via PM requests. thanks

yes and yes.

so matt, you should be able to pick up a female end at a NAPA for the heater.

You didnt read anywhere what the electrical draw is for the heater did you?

20amp, can be hooked up either wire pos, and either wire grd.

Thanks for the info on Napa & Weatherpak!
