quick kerosene question

I've got several gallons of kerosene I need to get rid of. It is red-dyed fuel bought last week, should be clean and fresh, but my kerosene heaters don't like the dye so I want to go back to using clear. Problem is all my fuel cans are full; can I dump 5 or 10 gallons into my pickup to burn it up? Will it hurt anything?

Add a quart of motor oil along with 5 gallons of the kerosene

The Kerosene is very dry and will thin out the diesel even more.

We used to add a few gallons of Kerosene during cold weather to keep #2 from turning to Jello

Winter blend fuel is a percentage kerosene anyways. Adding a few quarts of oil in there, I dont see how it would hurt anything.

It will burn just fine like said just don't get caught...the #1 fuel oil & the winter blends we run are a mix of K1 + diesel. Like has been stated a little lube added would help. The only concern I have is (no experience with DS4 EFI) with the optic sensor, if you had a mechanical rig it would be a no brainer.

yeah thats what I was worried about, I know it will burn, but I didnt want to hurt anything electronical. I guess we're going to find out, I dumped about 7 gallons in there, and it only had about that much in it already. Not sure if I've got any oil, but I have some white power service I can throw in there. Only have a 15 minute ride to work in the morning, and I can appropriate some oil there.
I've never ever heard of anyone sticking a tank on anything but a commercial truck. I'm not letting anyone touch my truck. Commercial rules do not apply, so they can get a search warrant. Which they wouldn't do. I'm sure I could beat the ticket anyway, once I explained the circumstances, needing to dispose of a couple gallons of k1. Now if I were running it all the time, or especially in a commercial truck, then I can see getting fined. Not that theres any reason to do so, without road tax k1 is about 40 cents more a gallon here than road diesel.

Thanks for the input!

The red fuel will not bother the OS. The truck will run fine. As far as your other statements the IRS can stop you anytime for any reason and stick your tank WITHOUT a warrant. If you refuse you will be arrested and your truck impounded. I am in the fuel business(well was anyway). Not to mention using red fuel is not only tax evasion but it is also a violation of EPA regs and they don't need a warrant either.

Ya know, a fuel guy once told me that the dye can stick around for awhile. He said it'll take several tanks of non-red diesel to wash out all the dye. His point was, just because you burn up the fuel in the tank doesn't mean you're clear of any future headaches. At least, not for several tanks. :nonod:

Will trany fluid stain the fuel red? (never looked). I used 1qt-1gallon on a fill up. Could they tell the diff if sticking tank?

Above all you have to remember who your dealing with here, you want to cheat and get away with it become a politcian.

Yes and Yes... They would not know (or care) if it's ATF. It's red.

Devils advocate here: If someone was actualy ticketed for running red fuel and it was not tested then that person could say it was trans fluid that stained the fuel.
Ive never seen red diesel, how red is it anyway? Cherry cool aid red or water color pastel red?
We used red regular gas in the Marine Corps in military vehicles in Japan. We had to test it for water everyday so about 2 qts a day made it into my little Datsun.

I would use 2-stroke oil with the kerosene, maybe it will make it purple :) If your heaters didnt like dyed fuel, could be iffy with the DS4. It wont hurt anything until you get too dark, and I dont imagine its dark, or will refract light much differently.

Since 2-stroke is made to mix, would best provide lubrication

And then they would probably just throw the EPA book at you. They will find a way. It pays their bills! :)

Go for it. Just don't forget a rope for your soap.
Let me reiterate for all. I am a Fuel Retailler and if you get caught running red fuel all the little tricks won't do shit. You will be fined thousands of dollars and made a very painful example of. Oh and BTW people, the IRS and the EPA also peruse diesel forums looking for people bragging about it. The money you save will not be worth the pain you feel.
Let me disspell some rumors.
Saying it's tranny fluid or Marvel Mystery OIl or what ever doesn't mean crap They pull a sample. If it's red then it gets sampled and in some cases your vehichle gets impounded.
Red Fuel IS a violation of EPA, and State and Fed tax evasion. All three agencys will **** you in the ass with a vengence like you will never believe.
It's just like music sharing...It's all fun until you get caught and yes they do check pickup trucks.
Bragging about it is the #1 way to get caught.
I strongly suggest a mod wipes this thread out.
I would not take the risk. Jail is no fun.
If you feel the need for kerosene then run clear. It IS legal to run that.
The red fuel doesn't stain the tank but it will stain the fuel filter. I used to switch back and forth with diesel and #2 oil in my delivery trucks as I sold both and never had issues with staining as my delivery trucks were all 2 compartment. Just had to flush the hose about 20 gals or so and the fuel was nice and clear.

They can test to see what is mixed in with the fuel. It's a simple test especially for the EPA. They can tell you even what the percentages the diesel vs. tranny fluid or any other fluid you might want to put into you fuel tank.
