Going pre means you don't have to change the overpriced oem nearly as often.

For anyone contemplating adding a filter, a word of advice. Salt and aluminum do not get along well, and the salt will eat an aluminum filter mount up in a few years. Moral of story, put something on it to protect it against the salt: paint, grease, Line-x, whatever. :cheers2:

Good idea on both. Had not thought about saving $ on not changing the OEM as often.

Most mounts are aluminum billet aren't they?

The ones that Nicktane sells are, but if you buy elsewhere, make sure it's not cast or if it is, paint and/or coat it.
 
I live in FL so road salt isn't an issue. I did paint the get-up before installing it though.
Also don't drive off road or on gravel roads, so I saw no need to armor plate the filter housing.

Road salt may not be an issue, but how close to the ocean do you live? Salt is salt!

As for the gravel roads, I drove paved roads to and from work everyday, and went through a windshield every year. Even paved roads get debris on them!
 
for my 6.5 I'm pre OEM filter and pre lift pump, 10 micron racor mounted to fram rail, I let the large body filter "sift" the large solids & water to protect the lift and on engine filter lasts longer, also have vac switches on both filts that turn on a light @ 7" Hg so I KNOW when filts need changing vs time or mileage guessing they MAY need changing and don't toss filters that still have dirt carry capacity in them.
