Power Steering Pump Hose Routing

Got the Power Steering Pump installed, but it is not working. I think that maybe I got the hydro boost outlet hose and inlet hose swapped at the pump. I have it on the circled pipe:

IMG_6230.jpegThe pipe next to it has the top left hose from the steering box. Fill it with fluid, put on jack stands, attempted to bleed and flush it but nothing comes out the hydro boost. I have the shop manuals, but the pics are pretty crappy as to where the lines attach at the pump.

There are only three lines to the pump. One is bent pipe with a fitting that holds it to an arm off the pump. That is the only place it can go. So by process of elimination that leaves the other two hoses with rubber hose going to the two pipes in the picture.
 
Per Paul, I’ve confirmed hoses are installed correctly. Really the hose lengths dictate which pipe nipple they can go on.

So after experiencing the pump not working (wheels are hard to turn while the front is up on jack stands, almost impossible to turn while on the ground), I attempted to to flush the pump, but nothing comes out of the return outlet at the hydro boost.

The pump will have to come out. I will check to see if I got the o-ring installed correctly on the temp sender located on the back of the pump. Any other suggestions appreciated.

Temp sender ?
Does this sender have the pressure hose attached to it ?
 
Sender goes through an armature which does have the pressure hose attached to it.
Could that be that variable pressure device that gives so many problems ?
I have one of these on the way to eliminate that troublesome little trouble maker. Last couple of years I had the wires disconnected on that.
Now its getting eliminated.
I know it says it does not fit my vehicle but I believe this is the one that does.
GM used to have the kits but after they run out they left it to the free market.
Do Your research and be sure Your getting the right thing, I’m just taking a gamble here. 🤷😹

So the top side fittings screw into were the sender goes and the pressure hose screws into the nut at the bottom of the picture?

What does this set-up get you? Does it eliminate the variable assist?
Yes, it turns the variable assist into full time, full pressure just like the older vehicles.
GM decided this variable assist system was not functioning as it should and they actually started a campaign to eliminate the variable valve system, using the components just like what we are seeing here, in the, as @dbrannon79 would say, the jungle site. 😹😹😹
 
fluid will only come out of the booster return line when you press the pedal and release in spirts. it won't constantly flow like it does with the steering box. if the pump isn't pushing fluid, its ether the variable valve you transferred from the old pump, the pressure relief in the pump behind that large nut on the back of the pump, or this pump sat on the shelf dry too long and the steel vains rusted in the rotor. be ware on new and reman pumps from all of the auto parts stores. don't return your old pump yet. check the orifice size in the center of that large nut on your old pump and the new one. 99% of the time the new pump will have a smaller aka normal size orifice where your original pump has a larger one for increased flow made for systems with a booster. most have to swap this piece to the new pump along with the piston and spring behind it.

What is this big nut you speak of? The variable valve has a large nut on its base. Otherwise, the remaining nuts are on the two posts for the bracket to the block.

Do they sell new variable valves?

I will order Marty’s variable valve bypass to get this going. I hate becoming an expert on pulling and installing this pump.

It was @ak diesel driver that give Me the heads up on that variable valve.
I used to have a real heavy duty bumper pull trailer.
Installed a receiver hitch unit to the front bumper.
First time I tried pushing that trailer into its narrow spot, could not steer, power steering just growl at me.
I posted in here what was going on and ak answered the call. 👍
