Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

I assume the WP backing plate is the same between the two timing covers. Wish I could rebuild the WP! the one on this engine is a GM pump and feels fine rotating by hand, but I know the seals .... it's sat up for a long time. I will have a sleu of parts I want to sand blast and clean up. v belt pulleys and all. might even try to rebuild the A6 compressor that was on it since that is the style on this engine and I seem to recall they are almost indestructible compared to the R4 pancake ones. I will have to modify the hoses or get the correct suction/discharge hose. PS pump will be need to be swapped though since mine uses the o-ring metric fittings. My son needs a pump too for his power steering conversion so if I just swap the housings around he will have the pump with the flared fittings for his truck, I will just need to get him a double V pulley

I placed an order for the lapping tools, compound and some assembly lube so I can start work on the heads this weekend. watched a few youtube videos on doing the valves and I see they all seem to be using some assembly lube on the stems during the process. I will need some anyway depending on if I need to do mains and rod bearings.

Remove that flashing as well.IMG_5514.jpeg

Once the flashing is all out, you can choose to spend a little time taking the edge off the oil return holes. Doesn’t really help a ton- but for 5 minutes more per head is worth the time imo.

LOL I had just found my carbide bit for the drimmel tool the other day! I can go through them and remove all of the flashing. I need to finish disassembly on all of the valves and then do another round of washing. there is a bunch of carbon and gunk under the valves in the ports yet. i think I will be using some gasoline this time around. we have about 15 gallons that we drained from my son's truck to clean the tank.
