I would pick someones brain if they do not mind. A couple weeks ago i purchased a 97 3500 6.5 td. it is a 2wd 4dr dually. Right off i noticed it wasnt running right and was spewing massive amouts of black smoke. I figured out the vaccum pump was down and made a turbo master, installed boost and egt gauges. That got rid of the black smoke and helped a minor amount. But going up an incline it is very sluggish. Around 35ish on something my 03 silverado with a 5.3 and 230,000 miles will do 65 up. Seems as if it starts good at bottom kicks and looses power when rpms go up.

Another symptom is it sends alot of white smoke when its first started up till it warms.

I have read PMDs are suppost to have a resistor, mine has been relocated to fender and i received two with it. The one thats plugged in has no labels and no resistor in it (see pic) The other is a stanadyne has no. 5 resistor. Havent plugged it in yet to see if theres any change

Any ideas on this thing may be so weak is greatly appreciated!

Plenty off coolant and no coolant in oil.... it only does it when it sits over night so I was thinking oil but it seems to be to much for that.

I just put the stanadyne in with thr resstor and took my battery terminal off for 20 min can tell really nodifference

I suspect that your homemade TM have a weak spring. May need to get a stiffer spring. Do you have Boost Gauge?

PMD issue got nothing to do with smoking. It will cause the truck to stall or inability to start.

As for the white smoke, that may be caused by weak Glow Plugs. If there is no coolant smell.

Also check all your grounds, electrical connectors and cables.

Check your Lift Pump?

Are you getting any codes?

The stock PCMs are not good, they kill your power, while already limited to start with. Plus you have a heavy one with more wheels to turn. I would suggest talking with Kojo, and walking J Designs about a PCM upgrade.

If the engine is cold white smoke is normal. Have to let it warm up for a few minutes before driving. If it smokes at idle while warming up you may have an issue with the injectors.

What is blowby like if you open up the oil fill tube while its running? Do you get a good amount of pressure there, like a freight train? If so could have low compression in a cylinder. I have lots of blowby and get plenty of performance, but I also have a light truck.

No codes after hour of driving after computer restart

Pushin 13psi of boost

Seems to run ok on flat land with a 16 second 0 to 60 time with 12 or 13 psi boost

It has a reallyh hard time up hills tho. Will check on blowby tho

when you hit a hill and sustain boost of 13psi for more than 10 seconds it is probably defueling from overboost. do you know what the gearing is and verified the speedometer?
