Paul's side of the story.

Right on schedule, Steve arrived in Big Red and I knew the truth was about to be revealed.
The trucks are what you see in the signature blocks.

Big Red is a 1997 RC K-2500 LB with a fairly stock HX-35 equipped 6.5 fitted with a 4:56 (grizzly locker) rear end and 37" BFG Mud Terrain KM2's. Heath built the tune specifically for the truck and turbo. Mine is a 1996 EC K-1500 SB with a not very stock Super-84 turbo equipped 6.2 hybrid fitted with a 3:73 rear end spinning 30" (OEM) BFG A/Ts.

We drove out to a section of road I had felt would allow us to run them wide open without being a threat to anyone other than ourselves.
I mounted a Go-Pro to the front bumper with a suction mount that should have been attached to the windshield. More on that later. Or should I say, "moron that later?" Owing to the many discussions, I angled the camera so that it would keep him in frame until I could build up boost and speed to overtake him.
The first run proved to be a lung full for a hapless jogger closing in on us as we lined up and counted down and launched. Fortunately the wind was blowing away from him but I'd have loved to have seen his face when both of us lit the ground cloud makers. As expected, Steve launched while I accelerated. It took a bit but I did catch him without too much trouble but it took a little longer than either of us expected. The fact that I have the slowest reaction time to 3-2-1-GO in the country didn't help but the truth is, that truck just flat gets off the line. My wife says his smokes more on launch although neither of us will ever be credited with driving Clean Diesel trucks.

Second run was about the same but the jogger was gone. Another thing became apparent and that was the section of road chosen wasn't what I had hoped. I was using the on-coming lane and the terrain didn't provide a safe enough view to give us comfortable runs. So, same road, 15 miles south, straight, flat and long. Off we went. When we got there I went out to reset the Go-Pro only to find it was now a Gone-Somewhere!
Maggie did a couple of passes with us using her iPhone in hand held mode from the Passat (TDI…clean diesel!) as we scooted down the road. I finally got a good RT but still had to catch up. We made a final pass rolling at 30 mph and accelerating. Now I'm the bad guy with the most smoke and still having to play catch up.
We then went on a long search of the weeds and gullies and after about an hour, found the Go-Pro a little worse for wear along with the case and mount all scattered for about 40 yards along the side of the road. Camera still works, the files were intact, and we had worried about how we were going to convince you guys that we actually did make a few fun runs but, the camera was lost. Ya'll can be a tough crowd at times.
Conclusion. Steve's truck is quicker and it takes getting into the unlawful zone to catch and pass him. So, as I thought, for the daily driver desiring to be somewhat lawful, Steve's got the quicker of the two trucks. As for grin factors, definite tie. This morning was a lot of fun and worth repeating. I'll have to work on my RTs though.

Steve's edit.

There is nothing I can say that Paul hasn't already covered. It was a riot and I couln't wipe the ear to ear grin from my face. I may take the launch from Paul even with his split second reaction time :rof: but in all truth once his truck has found the air it needs it pulls harder and faster than you would believe and it wasn't long at all before I was in his rear view.

I cant put words together the way Paul can so I'll just leave the videos and pictures to describe the outcome

Great video's. Thank you for sharing!!! If you are ever in the Wyoming/Montana area, hit me up. I would love to get in on a race or two haha both trucks performed well

Thank you we were both surprised at the outcome of our runs. I expected to take the line and soon be overcome by Paul but my truck surprised us both. If im ever in your area I will definately look you up.

I've got a lively, responsive truck that has legs but won't take anything that's tuned up a bit off the line unless by surprise (like the Dodge today that thought he was going to ease past me to take my lane at the merge...NOT). Surprised him with tires chirping in second on the cobble stone crosswalk in Bluffdale). That's what I want anyway so mission success. As you can see from the video the Frau shot, neither is wasting much, if any, fuel after take off so there's room to turn up the fuel.

Both trucks are automatics and we didn't manually shift them on these runs. I'd like to do this again with a better mount for the cameras, see what shifting does for us, maybe switch tunes (I've another that delivers much more fuel [but higher EGT]), document what's going on inside the cab with boost and such, maybe put the ATT on one truck and then the other or, perhaps, I'll have another Turbo offering that I'm Lab Ratting for Bill that can be run for fun. Mix it up a bit and show what's what.

What's really telling is that after the normal upgrades such as exhaust and air intake, one really only needs to match a turbo with tune to their truck's gearing and driving preferences to see some very impressive gains in performance.

However, to enjoy those gains and your investment, upgrading the known fail/weakpoints is a must as well. Injectors, water pumps, fans, fan clutches, etc. etc.

I wonder how Paul's truck would do with smaller tires?
Speedometer says it goes real fast with the 235x55x17 tires I have (q rated for the salt). GPS calls BS on it though.:hihi:
Makes it nice and low for better stability even with the lift. Unfortunately, it looks like a blond Dauchsen (sp) with a weight problem (SS Force can vouch for that).

Cool stuff. Looks like a lot of fun. Nice looking trucks and they sound great!
Thanks everyone. We do like to keep them looking good but I won't hesitate to load it up with horse squeez for the garden or drive it through the trees to get the job done for the lads. I've seen SSForce's truck loaded down with construction stuff as well. This things work when called on.

SS Force has a beautiful truck. Is he a Utah fan?

BTW, I know that F'n road. Where's the snow?

Snow is supposed to be coming tonight and this storm is supposed to last through Wednesday though the lows of 3 and 5 F will stick around through Thursday. The local weather guy says, "Blame Canada." They make weather up there; who knew? I say, "Thanks guys, we need the snow." Please send more.

Yes, that's UT-68 between my house and "Elberta" along the west side of Utah Lake. My place is at Mile marker 27 and we were down around 10-15 for runs three and four.

SS Force needs to do something about his air intake
I sent him home with an AFE set up complete w/ a fresh clean filter. It came with the motor's pieces parts like the Air Dog and such. I have the 1st GEN Heath CAI so it was just taking up shelf space...now it has a new home.

I think my old 93 has something for you blokes. :D
I did like the vids. Its nice to put faces to 'avatars' on a computer screen. Good job fellas.

thank you. Sorry she was such a mess, with all my side work I never seem to have the time to clean her up. Out of BYU or the U I would have to go with U for the color :hihi:

Unfortunately yes, I installed the hx and didnt have the coupler to connect the silicone to the k&n and havent had the time to buy or fab something else up. I plan on putting the CAI that Paul gave me to good use soon.
