Opinions on the Valvoline Syn Gard TES295 Trans Fluid?

I found the problem this a.m.

the Tahoe went in over a year ago for the seats losing memory and a/c memory for driver 1&2...someone really screwed up the wires under there and they must have finally broke...I'll post some pictures in another thread tomorrow...I'm utterly pissed at the dealer right now...I haven't fixed it yet.

Well I just picked up 15 gallons of CITGO QUATRASYN(Mike L's favorite stuff) for $25 a gallon plus tax. I snoozed though because I could have gotten it 6 months ago for $21.80 a gallon plus tax.

Just got this e-mail from the only supply around for Transynd.

Good Afternoon Mike,

We do carry the transynd in stock your cost would be 52.41 per gallon. If you have any other questions please let me know.

Thank you,

Rob LeMaster

Now what? I need 5 gallons...

On edit, I e-mailed a distributor 35 mi north of me that stocks Delvac TES-295 for a quote. I'll se what he has to say. I'd be ok with 30-35 bucks per.

Heard fom the Delvac distributor. $44.33/gal in a 5 gal pail for $221.65 + tax. I may just have to bite the bullet.

Wonder what shipping would run? I paid roughly $136 for a 5 gallon pail of QUATRASYN, and I bought TRANSYND for $156 in a 5 gallon pail from the local ALLISON dealer 2 years ago.

You could also buy the AMSOIL torque drive from wrecker as it is about as close as you can get to TRANSYND.

I'd check a few more places and see if you get a lower price. Then see if the dealer closer to you will price match. It's worth a shot for a few phone calls.

Shipped to me is $15 from their facility so I would be invoiced to my door at $255 for 5 gal. Plus there is an enviro compliance fee of $12.50 for all their orders. I was also looking into this since I could put it on the same order with the 1 fee but it can't be shipped. I would have to pick it up:
Mobil Delvac Extended Life Coolant/Antifreeze meets or exceeds the requirements of:
Detroit Diesel DDC Power Guard Oil Specification 93K217
MAN 324-SNF

to replace my DexCool (that is still the initial fill ). I'm told this is 100% compatible and even better.
They want $66 for a 6 gal case of the 50/50 mix. Here's the specs on it.

I would only do Transynd or Mobil Delvac TES295 (unless I consider the Amsoil - and I'm leery of it) and there are only 2 ways to get it anywhere in shouting distance. Those were the 2 I have. Unless Ferman can find a way that his guy will ship at a reasonable price to 60548.

I have located a commercial John Deere shop fairly close to me...about 30 minutes. They carry the HD SynTran which is also a TES295. I am going to see what the cost is and I hope it is NOT $50 a gallon.

You want the regular syntrans, NOT the HD version. The HD version is a 10/50 viscosity whereas the regular syntrans/transynd is a 7/35 viscosity. The HD stuff is meant for the 4000 and up series allisons used in offroad equipment.

I just ordered a 5 gal pail of Mobil Delvac Synthetic that is TES-295 rated and IIRC the only one Allison agrees is interchangable for the 1000 series. Ouch on the $ though... About $255 to my door.... $12.50/qt

Wow! Thanks for that info! That could have been ugly to buy the wrong viscosity.

Thanks again!

Woohoo! Damn that stuff is expensive though.

Last time I bought TranSynd through the Allison dealer it was around $120/5gal. Single gallons were $32ish. I'd be curious as to what the Mobil distributor here charges for it.

Still is roughly $32 a gallon from them(they charge $31 a gallon if you buy it in a 5 gallon bucket now though). I can't believe how much the price on it varies from dealer to dealer.

FDDA on 60, right? Inflation...

I wonder how much Fleetwing charges for the Delvac 1 ATF. They've given me a break a couple of times.

Changed it. It LOOKS like an red trans fluid but doesn't smell tike ANY other trans fluid or hydraulic oil I've ever encountered. And I've encountered more than almost anyone I've ever met except maybe a lubrication specialist. It seemed to shift a bit smoother for now but that's always the case after a fluid and spin-on change. Used right around 4 gals with the double drain method. Hoot method doesn't work with the 4" exhaust. Return line won't slide out easy.
