Opinions needed - Performed Optical Bump

Test it in a pot on the stove first is easy. Keep the other you have just in case.
Do you have a real temp gauge to see what’s happening? If not, get one on there and track what’s happening.
Make sure the Murray has an air bleed hole. I can’t remember what brand it was, but one that was an otherwise decent stat was laking that.

I installed a set of Motorad thermostats in Mine 6.5. They have worked well for three years now. They do have the air bleed option built in. The ones I got came through oriellys. RA might also have them.
I had them removed within the last month and they both still tested very good.
I can not think of a foreign country that I would support more than the one that makes the Motorad thermostats. Israel.

Thermostat ordered, should arrive tomorrow. I noticed today my gauge is still fluctuating. it seemed to take a little more time to warm up with the flow unblocked and the heater core bypassed, but also the temp rose higher than normal until the t-stat opened. it might be beginning to stick and good thing it's getting changed before the trip. I worry about the 195 t-stat and only having 15 degrees to reaching 210 danger zone! at least with the 180 I'll have a larger cushion

Go to the pull a part, get a fan clutch that fits Your truck. Drill all the way through and install three sheet metal screw all the way through the front and back section. Install that locked up fan clutch and see what the engine temp does.
Will L told Me about that test.
Engine in mine was running 217 degrees, installed that locked up fan clutch and temp would not go over 200.

If you want a quick and cheap temp gauge that works good, you can go to AAP and get Bosch gauges. You could take out the dash gauge sensor in the front of the block and install the new temp gauge there for now. I have 2 Bosch boost gauges that I use. 1 for reading boost and 1 for reading fuel pressure. They are not expensive and have worked good for 4 or 5 years so far.

Whoa.... that is not a test. That is a permanent modification to lock up a bad fan clutch. Take out those screws (probably get away with just one) and the clutch will never lock up again.

I've got the 9 blade steel fan installed this past Saturday with the el'cheapo fan clutch I ordered. after receiving the fan clutch I found out it's a "static" clutch not a thermal clutch. so I can hear the roar all the time as if it's fully locked! no air flow problems in that area lol. I know it'll lower my mpg's but it will work for now until I scrounge up the cash for a balanced GM pump and proper clutch. At least I was able to get rid of that 6 blade fan thanks to @ak diesel driver

I also took my mileage again after that trip to the junkyard. it was before I installed the clutch and fan, but I was back up to the 13 were I was before :) 12.95 mpg to be exact. I had 122 miles on the odo when I filled up, the trip to the junkyard was maybe 50 miles round trip on the freeway so I'll count the total for half n half city and highway driving. Ill monitor my mileage for the trip to the coast when we leave on Sunday. I'm sure there will be an effect with that static clutch.

I disabled one of the pusher fans, only have the one on over the trans cooler side connected to run with the AC.

I thought I was buying a thermal clutch, even the description showed severe duty thermal, but I haven't been able to break it loose to freewheel while the engine is cool. after reading some of the reviews and comments on other clutches from the same seller online I determined it was a static clutch. it has the coil on the front but I think it's just for aesthetics. one of those chineese copies made to look like but not whats on the inside! I can spin the fan on the clutch but it has some resistance to it.

I have a month to return it for a full refund, I might do that after the trip or keep it for a future backup when I do the balanced pump and "real" fan clutch!

@MrMarty51 Just out of curiosity, how much fuel mileage did you loose locking up the fan clutch? I really haven't noticed less power on mine other than the roar and higher boost pressure from normal driving. I'm sure I am having to push the pedal a little more getting the same feel as before with the 6 blade fan and wore out clutch!

Have not drove it much after locking the fan clutch. I just never go anyplace except to the store once in a big blue moon. The truck has not been started now for over two weeks. If I do go and aint going to be packing much, I just take the Polaris four weeeeler. 😹😹😹
If I do make a road trip with the truck, I will for sure record beginning and ending mileage and the gallonage.

Just got the t-stat replaced. I tested it before and it seemed to open at 185 which I thought was a little on the high end of 180. I did the test twice and got the same results. after I installed it and ran for a while. I used my ray temp gun and it seemed steady at 178 or so checking at various places, t-stat housing, water outlet ports at the heads, both temp senders and that was the highest reading I got. gauge is now showing one mark below the 1/4 mark.

what startled me is when I cranked it up the belt jumped off. hoping it was just wet that caused that!!

my drive to and from work tomorrow will tell me more less if fluctuating is gone.

Ill test my old one later and see what it does.
