Depends on the 6.5
Junk PMD is junk PMD. No saving it. It is near impossible to diagnose bad PMD's, but any PMD that has lived under engine hood is in question of being junk, if not junk already.
SO.
In order to eliminate PMD as THE MAIN PROBLEM of 6.5's, and THE REASON THEY GOT BAD REP to begin with.
You need to buy a NEW PMD and mount it where you have it, OUT OF ENGINE BAY.
Then, you can safely assume that is NOT the problem and it probably never will be again.
I been where you are before bud, got it running, revved her till the limiter stopped it from blowing up because at that time I didn't care either.
I replaced it with a PMD mounted in engine bay. Lasted 3 months there. Chased problems left and right until I ordered a NEW ONE and mounted it under bumper like you.
Havn't had a problem in 2 years.
I fueled my truck up today and my truck weighs 9200lbs. It does not feel sackless, sluggish, or gutless. In fact when people follow me they say that thing really moves. Yet I baby it. I do have 4.10's, but still I have never wished it to have more power. Most I ever towed was about 3,000 lbs. Climbed hills fine. Average working load of my truck is about 9500 - 10k lbs.
I do think once you get this 6.5t tamed, running, and resolved you will not think so bad of her. I have never in my life driven another 6.5 on the road so i have nothign to compare it to.
I think you should find a 6.5 and take it for a test drive to confirm weather yours is problemed, or if you are just expecting too much.
Of course, once you get it running again.
You come off odd at times, but I do understand the frustration.
Now you know why these engines got such a bad reputation.
Not sure if your problem is PMD or not... I had no problem buying a new one because I plan on keeping the truck, so even if it didn't fix mine, I wouldn't have to worry about it again. But it did.
