Oil Cooler Line Repair

Hold on Greg, I don't appreciate any suggestion by you that we have copied your work. There is no magic in the design of any such system. The idea of an improved oil cooler and line set is most certainly not a patented one. We have been developing an improved system, but needed a kit or two to get a couple of trucks fixed in advance of our having our systems in production. Naturally, we chose yours to get these trucks going.

If anyone is designing a oil cooler line set-up please take note that the oil cooler line ports on the block are not vertical. This requires 2 different length hoses. Greg's are both the same length. There is about 1 1/2" difference. With greg's kit I have very different amounts of slack in the lines. Looks very sloppy.The hose also needs to be covered to not rub the block heater cord. I used the factory clamp on the motor mount bracket to hold the lines. Heat shielding from exhaust manifold heat would be good also. It ends up very close to the manifold.

No Gregs are not the same length and their is a 3 inch difference.

My Lubrication Specialist kit also had two hoses of different length. I used 5/8" heater hose to cover the braided stainless. Cheap and effective way to protect against both chafing and heat.

I also have the OPS extension from PMDcable. I also wrapped it with 5/8" heater hose to prevent chafing.

I like both items very much.
 
Just to chime in. I have two of Lube Specialists / Greg's kits and am very happy with both. And yes the hoses are different length.

... Really I do not see how to make the kit any better? But at the same time it is not rocket science as to the solution. The package is just so easy to buy and install, no fuss.
 
I have to admit I have not taken a good look by since the new oil cooler is the same size why has no one just made a new set of lines for it? Seams like the good alternative to a $200 system with a new oil cooler? Unless you are planing on moving your oil cooler to be your Trany cooler then it makes seance.

Are you asking why someone does'int just make a stock replacement line? They do, you can get them at the auto parts store. $90
The issue is the stock type lines are prone to leak at the crimps and the quick disconnects at the block IMO are not trust worthy. That little spring clip is all that is keeping the hose on. I would be really conserned if I lived in an area that salted the roads.
 
Fittings are one of the issues. Obsolete on earlier models and you would have to have some rubber or something that is flexible anyway. Installation would be much harder than with kits that are already available.

Also less reliable... any time you have to start adding adapter fittings into a closed system, you run a much greater risk of leakage, and it increases the chances of a failure.

I agree with Greg - you have a choice of vendors who produce changeover kits at pretty good prices, playing with adapter fittings and hydraulic hoses doesn't save you enough to warrant the risk, in my opinion.
