My tow haul light comes on whether I have the trailer hooked up or not. The tow haul does provide some braking benefits, but I think it is due to the Allison downshifting at higher shift points and RPM's.
I am with Ferm on the fact that there is a towing relay in the fuse box under the hood that works the trailer wiring harness. Some trucks also came through with the 5th wheel harness that is wrapped up somewhere next to the fuel tank. You can see the 5th wheel wire harness by looking between the small break where the truck and bed meet. Not that it makes much of a difference, but just thought I'd mention it.
