Myself and Handcannon recently bought the heated electric lighted tow mirrors from Option Racing. These are the same mirrors that 88GMCtruck swapped onto the "Towpig" and did a "How -To" thread on the install of them when he put them on his 88 gmc.
The mirrors are gourgous and seem to be good quality. The customer service and Tech support is horrible:wtf: to put it mildly:mad2::mad2:
When I received the mirrors I noticed the connectors didn't match the connectors from the suburban wiring harness[from a 94 suburban] I'm going to use to install them on my 94 K2500HD. These mirrors were supposed to fit this application. [94 suburban] The 94 model trucks and suburbans never had heated mirrors as a option:eek:. Ok not a huge deal. I'll just contact Option Racing and find out where or what connector matches the mirrors and make a adpter harness so I don't chop the original end off the harness on the mirrors voiding any warranty[I doubt they would honor it anyhow]. I contacted their customer service twice and they finally gave me a phone number and extension number for the allegded "Tech Support". Rather then just sending me a email with the requested info to get the mirrors wired:???::bs: I called their Tech support 2 days in a row early in the day and got sent to voice mail both times. My calls were not returned either time:mad2::mad5::mad5:. Today I started a "case" with ebay about the problem. Option Racing responded rather quickly and again wanted me to wait by the phone for them to call me [again] instead of just simply giving me a list of the functions of each of the wires or a schematic. I waited by the phone another 3 hours today. Still no call:mad2::mad2::wtf::wtf: I will update what happens. There is no reason for this to happen. Any potential buyers should know their total lack of customer service before they purchace from Option Racing. Here's some pics of the mirrors IMG_1546_4.JPGIMG_1547_5.JPGIMG_1548_6.JPGIMG_1549_7.JPGIMG_1550_8.JPG

Thanks for the warning......Bad customer service will make a golden product a questionable purchase, usually a deal breaker!.......(fanclutch.com) <- Not a real company, but I'll never buy from ken...I mean them again......I never forget:thumbsdown: and will tell my experience to whoever will listen.

Couldn't resist LEO :poke::BDH:

As bk95td said, the mirrors really look good and well made.

Since my pickup never had power anything for mirrors I knew I'd have to either make a wire loom or scrounge one. I've been haunting the wrecking yards for the past few days to find the correct wire loom for this era vehicle. I ended up pulling the complete power window, lock, and mirror loom from under the dash and door to door from a 93 or 94 Suburban. I expected to receive a mirror that would plug right into the stock power mirror connector for that era and then I'd have to wire for the heat and lights. The mirrors arrived and NO GO!! What I've found, after going back to the wrecking yards again, is that an 01 and 02 Tahoe connector does fit. BUT, the ad I saw, and ordered from was for 92-99 Tahoe, which should be direct crossover to the Suburbans and pickups for those years for the power mirrors.

So today I went to the local library and got the power mirror wiring schematic for the 01-02 Tahoe. Now bk95td and I have to come up with a hybrid loom to match the mirror to the 94 loom.

Well I was worried for a minute since I ordered these mirrors yesterday....But I ordered the plain manual mirrors, no lights , no heat so no wiring issues for me :)

:rant:I FINALLY:rolleyes5::rolleyes5: heard back from the "tech" Dept at 8pm[friday night]. The "Tech" guy barely spoke english. He said he wasn't told about this untill just before he called me:???::wtf::bs:. Once I got the needed info I chewed on him for a while about Option Racings lack of customer service. I told him to pass on the ass chew to his boss. I also told him they have just lost many potential customers on this diesel forum.
Another thing that bothers me about this whole deal is the seller's lack of warranty[15 day exchange only} . The buyer must pay return shipping also[$30]. As said , they seem like a very good quality product ,why no real warranty?:???:
Another seller on egay sells the same mirrors but not with all the options[power adjust, heat and led lights]. They offer a 90 day or better warranty.
These mirrors are manufactured by Chris Cam in Taiwan.:bigear::hmmm: Maybe one of our site vendors:poke: should become a distributor/retailer of these mirrors? I plan to buy at least 2 more sets from anyone but :agreed::irked::headbang::thumbsdown:Option Racing.

Thanks for the heads up....I had planned on a purchase as well, but now maybe i will wait to see if a site vendor picks up the line

Think about it... If you were a vendor would you want to sell something that your supplier not only won't stand behind but isn't even represented by any kind of recognizable organization? Even if it IS a decent product, there are bound to be some that aren't right.

is that amber light meant for turn signal? is there any letters or numbers on lens?

The amber light is a LED. With proper wiring and 4 diodes it can be used for both a marker light and turn signal. 88gmc truck did a install in the "How To" section of the forum. He also just swapped them onto his new "Towpig" thread. I can take a look for a number on the lens.

No numbers on the amber lens.

Is there some reason my reply to this was deleted?

The problem here is clearly Option Racing. I only got a answer after ebay got after them twice. I had emailed them twice and phoned twice and left messages.
As stated other ebay sellers[race guys] are selling the same mirrors with a real warranty. They don't have the mirrors with all the options.
I don't know where you came up with the "Recognizable Organazation"?????? This is a retailer problem. A good retailer would have delt with this minor issue rather than "blowing off" the customer as Option Racing did to me.

It appears that the 'Racing Guys' seller has the heated/power/signal model as well.

Not that I just saw. They had power/led, led /heated,manual/heated, and power/heated. No power/heated/led. They do show a pic of the electrical connector. They do have a 1 year warranty. They had other heated/power/signal mirrors, but not for 88-99.

The 8 pin connector was the start of the problem. That connector[and heated mirrors] wasn't used until 2000 or 2001 as far as i know. It won't match the truck which is a 4 pin. The 4 pin connector is on some of the other combos. The LED lights are separate from the main connector.

Sucks you had such a problem with them, and that is the problem many times with ebay. They are selling the mirrors as fitting 92-99 trucks with power mirrors because they just don't know better. If you were to buy the ones without heat, then you would have had the right 4-cavity connector, which is what the OE harnesses have. Every GMT400 truck with power mirrors, 92-00 have the 4 cavity connector, that is unless it's one of the really rare 99+ trucks that have heated mirrors or electrochromatic glass.

When I got mine, I knew i'd be building my harness anyway. I have a snapon tool for weatherpack and metripack connectors and just removed the pins and configured them how i wanted.

They way I see it, the crap customer service inherently comes from the crappy, low cost overseas bulk crap they sell. That sell goes for quantity, not quality of customer service. I expected that when I ordered the mirrors knowing they were a large seller and it was ebay. Honestly, had there been another option to buy them elsewhere I would have. Still sucks you got the run around with them.

Did you ever get the wiring colors sorted out!? I mentioned earlier I can go look at my mirrors, and tell you whats what on them if you need.

I just got the adapter harness' made this afternoon. Don has his hooked up on the bench and doesn't have both left and right. only one. The up and down is working. Your color coding in your truck should be the same , I would think. So yes we would be very thankful to confirm that I got it right off the schematics. Just a list of what factory color to what mirror color would be great. Both sides would be even better. I'll pm you what I have. Thanks again,David

David

If you could post up your wire colors that would be much appreciated. Barry, bk95td, sent me the wire color/function he got from Option and how he paired it up with the GM colors. With the color/function he received I tried to check things out. The verticle function worked fine for me. The horizontal went to the right when I pushed the left button and when I pushed the right button nothing worked. My first thought was I switched a couple wires but I couldn't figure it out. Maybe a bad switch?

Both drivers side and pass side functioned the same.

Here's the e-mail message he forwarded to me from Option.

blu/wht---"+" left, "-" right
wht/silver---"+" right. "-" left
wht/yellow---"+" up, "-" down
grn/wht---"+" down, "-" up

Here's the wire color combo Barry sent me, which I tried.
New drivers side mirror: GM loom:
green/white---------------Lt green
blue/white----------------white
white/silver---------------Lt blue
white/yellow--------------yellow

New pass side mirror: GM loom:
green(/white)--------------------purple/white
Blue/silver(white)-----------------red/white
yellow(white)/silver(yellow)-------yellow
white/silver----------------------Lt blue
These colors are as on my new mirrorsThe color within the () is listed color as sent to me.

Don
