New 6.2 660 GM short block build with DS4 injection pump

Rather than envy, I've had the thought that you can pop the hood to some enviro-nutjob and say, "See, Green energy!"
And while it's still sparkly new, "Clean Diesel."

Screw'em if they can't take the joke.

The engine is now bolted down within the chassis.I'm currently installing the new flexplate I picked up and perhaps tonight or tommorrow the transmission and transfer case will be installed.

Then comes the diamond eye exhaust.More pictures are on the way.

Here are some inframe pictures of the engine and tranny. The transfer case and driveshafts are in place as well. The diamond eye exhaust was installed today.

Great build ,love all the pictures and the completed assembly and engine color. It's good to know you can buy a new g.m. 6.2 660 block. You said you bought the engine from wisconsin, is that the name of the company? Is there a websit or phone number? After seeing your pictures ,Iv'e got the bug to build one.Good luck with your project, can't want to see the finished truck.

Thanks

Thanks smokey.I appreciate all the comments.I bought the engine from ebay. The seller was located in Wisconsin.I don't have any names of a company, etc. He had three of these new 660 short blocks.I bought one and one other was sold but i'm not sure on the last engine remaining. He might still have it.I will have to go back through my paypal records to get an email address from the seller because I can't remember the sellers name but I will check and get it for you if your interested.

That is true.I basically took this truck down to the frame because it needed a great deal of work.Alot of work. The cab had to come off because all the cab mount supports were almost rusted through and I wanted to take everything down and do a thorough job and do it the right way or at least try.In one of the pictures above you'll see that the chassis had some work done to the front section on the driver side. That area was weak when pounded with the hammer so I cut out the bad section with a plasma cutter and reshaped some new 1/8" plate and put that into place. It's definately much stronger now than before. The passenger side was pretty solid so it was left as is.

Sometime this week i'll install a new fuel tank, fuel lines, brake lines, etc. After all that is done,i'm pretty much ready for the cab.More pictures will be on the way.

I like the green belt.

I would toss the plastic turbo cover though.

A lot of the guys like the green belt.I have to admit it does look good.I like the turbo power cover but it supposedly traps heat and that of course does the PMD in.

Another couple of pictures for your viewing pleasure...you'll see the repaired starter ear found on the 599 block I decided not to use.Thought i'd show you guys how it looked.

heck I think I would have tried that one. Looks like a pretty good repair. You do that?

The repair does look okay.No doubt about it.I did'nt repair it though and i'm not sure who did. While cranking over the 599 in the truck it felt like the starter was'nt engaging the flexplate teeth like it should.Like it was'nt in perfect alignment.I inspected the teeth on the old flexplate and it did'nt look all that bad but had seen better days and the starter drive looked to be in good shape too.If you look directly inside the starter bolt hole around the area thats been welded it does'nt look to be oblong, etc. But it just did'nt seem right when being cranked over.

Looks fine to me, I would have tried it as well.

Maybe I should have tried that engine and gave it a go but I felt a little nervous about having a welded block and having it fail and then i'm stranded so to speak especially if I decide to go a few hundred KM's from home. The repair looks great but there's no telling how long it would last.

I was going by appearance of the repair, if it didn't look or sound right, I don't blame you.

pmd relocation to the bumper is the best move for extending the life of the pmd, way better than just loosing the cover. Why not keep the cover and relocate the pmd?

1 more vote for the green belt btw, cool to have it match.

Also, what all mods are you doing? ftb, lp upgrades, upgrade cooling, etc?

Where did you find the belt?

Weld looks great, I wouldn't worry about that failing but like you said, why chance it, especially if you have the money to start from scratch.
