If you haven't seen my other thread, I'm in wa with a blown engine. It was old and tired and holed a piston. I'm really stuck so I'm putting in an optimizer to get rolling again.

Here's the question:

My old block is a 599, my new block is an optimizer.

Don't they have different size oil line fittings at the block?

Need an answer pretty quick gents......truck is torn down, shop is closed today and no lines are available here ATM. I'll have to overnight a set from somewhere if mine don't work.

No speculations please. I need an answer, not a discussion.....

1997 is the break point for 3/8" old fittings switched to the newer 1/2" fittings. 599 blocks were 94-1995 and 3/8" fittings. So I don't know what you will have.

Sounds like I have 3/8's. It an early 599 6.5 block.

I'm going to guess the optimizer has the 1/2 fittings.

Guess I'll find out first thing tomorrow morning.....yeesh.

:rolleyes5:

You may be best to take Leroy up unless Bill has something laying around. I have a brand new lube specialist Kit in my garage I could overnight first thing tomorrow AM but in all honesty Leroy could probably get to you just as fast. Otherwise you could buy new lines from GM but they are pricey and suck but if you gotta you gotta. I could swear my Burb has the bigger fittings and it's a 98 but I have no idea what block I have.

Bills out. I hit it at just the wrong time. He's waiting for an order of fittings.

I've got a PM in to leroy, still waiting to hear back....

So that means your engine ain't original, should have a 506 in there.
A couple reducers might work but might interfere with the manifold.

It is possible they machined the block for the bigger fittings.

The new block has 1/2" pipe thread fittings. Not sure what your old block had, but probably 3/8". If you are running the original stock lines, you can get block fittings to fit smaller hoses in both sizes. I had both size fittings a while back, but not sure if I still have them.

Of you are using aftermarket lines with AN fittings, you should be able to get a pair of 90 degree fittings with 1/2" pipe and either -8 or -10 to match your hoses.

FWIW, GM went with 5/8" hoses on the oil squirter blocks, so if you have a high volume oil pump and oil squirter bearings, I suppose you should use the bigger hoses. However there are plenty of oil squirter block running around on 1/2" hoses, so I would guess its not critical.

If reusing your hoses & oil cooler, I would flush them out very well, don't want any contaminants in the new engine.

You can see the 1/2" pipe holes in the block here, yours should be the same

Here they are installed - not much room around the manifolds - and make sure you do a good job sealing the valve cover, or you will get oil leaking like I did!

The Optimizers do have the bigger holes and they told me at Ted's that you should be able to get some reducers right from the hardware store... Home Depot. maybe..

A 1/2 to 3/8 pipe thread reducer is only going to push the fitting out around 3/8 to 1/2 extra. But judging from the picture above, it should fit but will be tough to get a wrench on the tube fitting.

I'm going to have to get into the shop first thing tomorrow.

Have to check the line sizes and if they'll work, as well as the bellhousing bolts.
Why would the bellhousing bolts be different ? I have never heard of that. Oddly enough IIRC they are American thread. Atleast on my 93(95 Motor) they were.
