Trick about it is its not a straight line, need flexible hose or soemthing similar, at least on mine.
#1 check state and local laws. vehicle may be required to have one.
#2 if soot trap/ catalytic, get rid of
#3 went straight on mine and then put a resonator in due to noise in cab(wife hates on long trips, then the hate turns on me)
Are the inlets and outlet's not lined up? It's been so long since I've had the stock set-up, I forget.
Another option would be to have a local muffler repair shop bend you a piece. That should still be pretty inexpensive. Probably find a shop where you pay a guy $20 after hours.

I did the same, and, now, with the A-Team turbo, the resonator is not enough though the rumble is really nice, different and nice, but loud.
I think I will have to upgrade to Aero turbine or Magnaflow silencer to avoid the half...
