Motor oil in your diesel fuel

That is exactly what I have heard about kerosene, it is dry also, it is thin.

I know that a diesel motor can run on just stright kerosene, but you will get like 2-3 miles to the gallon from what I understand. I was at a horse barn with the skid steer unloading hay and ran dry once, found a jug of kerosene, dumped it in the skiddy and it ran. Not great, but it ran. It is very thin. I have also used kerosene in to thin diesel in the winter when fuel had jelled.

kerosene is super dry. needs a lot of lube to get it up to par

Yeah kerosene is dry as hell...bad enough all we got now if ULSD...and just think kerosene is worse than that. It can be run but like already said you will get bad mileage and to be safe you will need to run some additives like 2 cycle to help with lubricity.

what about running straight kerosene. one of the stations in town has it for 4.25 a gallon right now when diesel is 4.50+.

one of my neighbors runs about a 1:3 ratio of used motor oil to diesel in his tractors. they all smoke like a freight train, but they all still run.

I'v ran 5w 30 once or twice

Put 4 gallons of used oil in with 18.36 gallons from the pump last night. Truck still likes it. I'm goin for 5 next fill-up
Man, you guys take some serious chances with your trucks! Too expensive of an experiment for me. Diesels WILL run on a lot of different fuels, but for me its about longevity, not what it will run on any given day. It may not blow up when you put used motor oil or kerosene with an additive, but what will it look like after 200,000 miles and you are wanting another 200,000? My 2 cents.......unless you buy a new truck every 2 years I guess......

well, that is the question and I am the answer. No one knows, they can do studies in labs all day long and that doesn't add up to s*** in my mind. Sometimes you gotta buck up and give her hell.

Buck up and give 'er hell with a $40k truck? Whatever bud. That might apply to riding bulls, not seeing how much s*** we can put in our truck to make it run. Like I said, it depends on what you are looking for. For me, it's longevity, end of story.

How do you know that running oil through the truck is not going to help it. My truck might run for 500,000 miles now that the parts in the motor are getting lubed.

All I am saying is you don't know untill you try.

Has any one seen a Diesel go bad by running oil an diesel combo, injectors, pump any thing. I think guys like Phill are doing a fine job pushing oil through their motors. We all learn from the guys taking the chances willing to try new things, Diesel trucks wouldn't run like they do with out some testing. They have come a long way so Phill put 5 gal in her keep moving forward let us know how its working out. I bet more guys are doing this more and more every day with fuel prices going up.

The two stroke oil that some of you are running. Is there any particular brand or type thats better than the others?

wal-mart supertech brand. blue jug, around $8 last time i checked.

not that much more expensive than a gallon of #2 :frown2:

And all I am saying is I wouldn't "try" something with $40k truck that I didn't know how the long range results would turn out....just my opinion. You can run whatever you want, obviously. I am from the government and I am here to help you.:biggrin5:

I hate repeating myself, BUT like I said, if you can afford to "test" a $40k+ truck, that's good. I, myself, cannot. But, again, whatever works for you.

I've been running the Wal-Mart SuperTech TCW-3 stuff (blue jug) at about 256:1 (1/2 ounce oil per gallon of diesel). That comes out to just over 3 cents per gallon extra cost treating 256 gallons with an $8 jug. It's worth the 3 cents per gallon to me for peace of mind that the Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel is lubed to protect my original 2001 injectors with 157,000 miles on them.

KBcolt....I agree. The trucks will run on a lot of things in the short term, but we are unaware of what the long term effects may be. I'm no expert, but it seems like burning used motor oil would have a lot of junk in it that could build up and cause problems.

Two stroke oil seems fine, but since I am running on B80++ the lubricity benefits are nil. In fact, I might give two stroke a try in hopes of gaining a mpg or two...

I'm kind of scared to try it in my nice, low miled LLY, but how about equipment?? Same effects? Can I dump a few quarts worth into 5-6 gallons in my trencher with 4500 hard hrs and not hurt a thing, or would I be playing with fire?? How about my IR compressor??

Heck, I ran diesel on accident once in my lawn tractor. It ran, but you wanna talk about smoke!?!?!?!?
